When Coconut Grove was "Peacock Nation"

Looks like the Hare Krishna's came by last night; they dropped off their signature lei of flowers on Fred Hunt's peacock. This is one of the few remaining peacocks around town left over from our Peacock project in 2010. It's in pretty good shape, there's a little bruise on one area, but it's not bad for being out in the elements all these years and there have been lots of people sitting on his back to take pictures over the years, too. He held up well. Just like Fred who is up in Lake Worth, still going strong.

The Peacock Project was a lot of fun back then. It really brought a lot of people together and it's sort of when the Grove was the Grove for a while there.

For a while, the Grapevine nameplate was a close-up of the peacock painted by Grove artist Eileen Seitz, if you click on it, it will open to full size. This particular bird stood at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway, in front of Lulu.
