Peacocks are the squawk of the town
Fred Hunt is priming "Max," the first of the parade of peacocks that will grace Coconut Grove for the Coconut Grove Peacock Tour.
This first peacock was unveiled last week at the Peacock Vernissage to a standing room only crowd and starting next week, the rest of the 25 or so fiberglass peacocks (maybe up to 30), will arrive in the Grove to be paired with their respective artists.
The Chamber will introduce the artist and peacocks at a networker on Tuesday at their new peacock studio at the Mayfair Promenade, where passersby can watch artists give each bird their own personality.
After the peacocks are painted, they will be displayed throughout Coconut Grove, be part of a tour map and be the squawk of the town for many months to come, through the Spring and Summer into the fall, before they are auctioned off for charity.
The Miami Heat are sponsoring a peacock to be painted during the Raptors vs. Heat game on Sunday. Local artist LEBO will be doing the honors. Fans are invited to watch him in action before the game as he customizes the Heat's peacock.
