There are bike racks around, you just have to look
People have been asking about CocoWalk's new bike racks. They are there on the street. See that black post? They look more like horse tie up posts, this one by Greenstreets is funny looking. But they do serve the purpose. There is a large bike rack across the street at the Shaq 24 Hour Fitness Gym.
Plans in the works to get some new bike racks around the Grove. A contest for bike rack design is being planned for the Grove's Bike Day, and also, a project by the city is in the works for later this month or next month, where a new bike rack will be placed in front of The Bookstore.

It's a humble start, but don't make me laugh.. for 1 bike? they have some around dinner key, around panamerican drive, they recently added a couple nice ones, REAL bike racks, properly painted in green at Kennedy Park, and very few more here or there.
But that has never been the real problem with biking in the Grove.
The vast majority of those guys you see with expensive Road Bikes or Mountain Bikes, we hardly ever leave our bikes parked out there, unless we are a few feet away having coffee..
The real issues have to do with paving the streets, building real bikes lanes, painting the roads, and educating both bikers and car drivers. Like they do in Portland, or Colorado, Europe, Bogota, or even Key Biscayne, for instance.
Hi, so just one comment, the people at Greenstreet are very unfriendly if you try to use that bike rack. They say its in the way of their seating.
I walked and drove around the Grove today to see the bike racks that exist and search locations that might be of use for future bike racks.
I would suggest that all of us who wish to encourage more bike and pedestrian traffic ride their bike or walk around the Grove and compare
it to Miami Beach and especially Lincoln Road.
The Grove has a lot of catching up to do.
The Grove has a few very low density racks scattered around the village.
Only two of them could be considered high density since they hold more then five bikes
One high density bike rack is located in front of 24 Fitness and another is near the boat ramp on the bay (bikes belong to live-a-boards).
The most used bike rack is the one on the bay near the boat ramp.
Most bikers chain their bikes to a tree, lamp poll, street sign or fence.
There are no bike racks in front of Mayfair.
There are only two bike racks in front of Cocowalk and each one only holds max. two bikes.
I did not see any bike racks located at Peacock Park, Kenneth Myers Park or David Kennedy Park.
There are no bike rakes located in front of the Glass House (Net Office and Chamber Office).
I don't recall seeing a bike rack near the Library, Woman's Club, baseball field, basket ball court, the bay, Coconut Grove Sailing Club, skate board park, or tennis court.
It is hypocritical to claim we are promoting being Green if we don't make a much better effort to reduce internal combustion vehicle traffic and increase bike riding and pedestrian traffic.
People are not going to ride their bikes and park them in the Grove to shop, see a film, go to pub, have picnic, attend a sporting event in the park, visit the library, visit the NET office, eat at a restaurant, play tennis if there is not adequate, convenient and safe places to lock up ones bike.
We need more bike racks to accommodate many more bikers and thus encourage more pedestrian traffic and reduce the quantity of cars.
Higher density bike racks should be located in a bike designated area.
Replace a few parking spaces on Fuller or Matilda with a high density bike racks.
Install high density bike racks in all of our parks and near all of our baseball, basketball, tennis and skate board facilities.
Install medium density bike racks near the Glass House and library.
Install medium density bike racks in front of Cocowalk and Mayfair.
Install artist and perhaps whimsical low density bike racks on corners or in front of some shops.
Our Coconut Grove Village will be a much friendlier, pedestrian and bike community if we study this situation and install adequate numbers of bike racks that will encourage people to leave their cars at home.

Absolutely, Mr. Gootlieb.
But again, Bike Racks or "parking space' for bikes is the least of the Bikers concerns. As you mention, if you're on a regular tourism, or mountain bike for some shopping in the grove, all you need is a tree, a lamp, or anywhere with people around will do with a solid lock (please avoid the flimsy cords, they cut'em like butter)
Racks should be good looking, numerous, able to harbor multiple bikes, in visible places. Sure.
But that's not even the tip of the iceberg. If we want to make Coconut Grove Bike-Friendly, many other far more transcendent steps need to be taken, as I mentioned before. Just take a few hints for the leading cities here in the US or elsewhere. NOW THAT's the 21st century. Bike racks? sure, better than nothing.
