The Bacardi Cup races are in town this week

Registration started today for the 2009 Bacardi Cup.

Teams such as Claude Bonnanni and Rick Burgess and Mark Reynolds and Hal Haenel, who have been teamed up for years, are registered.

First sailed in 1927, the legendary Bacardi Cup remains one of the few sporting events in which weekend enthusiasts have the opportunity to compete head on with Olympians and World Champion athletes. It is sponsored in full by Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. and co-hosted by the Coral Reef Yacht Club and the U.S. Sailing Center right here in Coconut Grove.

The one race a day format and relaxed rules attract sailors from all over the world.

Sailing starts tomorrow with the VIP Yacht Departing at 10:30 am and the week of sailing wraps up Friday, March 13 with the awards ceremony at 5:00 pm at the Coral Reef Yacht Club.

Today people were just checking the venue out, having breakfast and signing up and buying t-shirts and things. I got a nice dark pink t-shirt myself, commemorating this year's race.
