Bike Miami Days coming to the Grove in April

The Grove will be a biker's paradise on April 26. That is when Bike Miami Days will be here for the day.

The Dutch Consulate is the sponsor and in commemoration of the Dutch Queen's birthday, orange is the theme (that's their country's color). Orange t-shirts will be given out to everyone.

On that day, many streets in the Grove will be shut down to auto traffic. Those streets are to be determined at future meetings. Everyone is encouraged to come out by bike, skateboard or rollerblades.

There will be free bicycle clinics, free rentals, free repairs and upgrade for your own bicycle and so on. From 9 am to 3 pm, it will be a biker's paradise.

Local businesses are encouraged to participate by engaging in the event by doing bike-related things, like how about a bicycle shaped pizza? Or maybe have the Bike Days colors featured at restaurants (green and purple). Maybe have specials pertaining to bicycles and such.

It's a low key way to meet your political leaders who are always on hand in this informal setting. A stage will be set up, maybe in Peacock Park, maybe elsewhere, where shows will be on all day. The spandex crowd passes through the Grove in the early mornings, this is not that. This is meant to be a family thing for everyone.

Details to come as they are finalized.

Great ! It's a start, better than nothing. I hope to see some of our so called "representatives" there, to ask them when will be the day they start building bike paths, bike facilities or at least repaving our Grove streets, like S.Baysore Dr., Main Hwy, Douglas or Tiger Tail which is where most of the bikes transit, even though they are veritable mine-fields, and very dangerous with the cars.

No need to go all the way to Amsterdam, (true paradise for bikes), they could start taking a few hints from our adjacent city of Key Biscayne. Out next door neighbors are light years ahead in this regard.
