Have you signed up for Code 33 yet?
Sekai is next in our "Restaurant Reality Check" series, where we list prices from menus at local restaurants.
I think it behooves everyone to sign up for Code 33. Why not? It's a great way for businesses to keep locals shopping and eating locally and for residents and people who work here, it's a great way to save money.
Code 33 is sponsored by the Village of Center Grove Homeowners Assn. of which Sue is the President. Any merchant interested in joining Code 33 should email mccconnell28@msn.com.
Info on Code 33 is here.

I've lived and worked in the grove for the passed 12 years, and as such I eat in the grove quite often... and I can tell you that Code 33 is a joke. Take Greenstreet, on Friday night after work, I passed by for take out and when I presented my code 33 card for the 10% discount the waiter did not know what I was talking about and did not honor it. Now, yesterday my friend went there with her family and they told her that Code 33 was only if you eat and drink at the bar! But many restaurants in the grove do the same thing in order not to honor the Code 33.
If the server does not know about Code 33 ask for the manager or the owner. Servers change frequently. I always look for the decal in store windows. The blog also runs a list of businesses on the program.
Code 33 is great - I use it all the time - it covers the tax and part of the tip. I always ask for it and have never had a problem.
When I moved here 6 or 7 years ago, it was a big thing. I was told about it by bartenders at Sandbar one afternoon, and began using it anytime I thought of it. Then it seemed like everyone just stopped doing it. Glad it's getting brought back or at least, back to light.
THIS IS MY FIRST RESPONSE TO ANYTHING IVE EVER READ ON THE GRAPEVINE(AND I READ IT ALMOST EVERY DAY.)
What sparked me to write on this topic is my UNCONDITIONAL LOVE for my code 33 card and I have 2 issues I think are important enough to raise:
1. Not that I can blame anyone because of the rapid restaurant turn over rate, BUT the current list of participating restaurants is outdated... The 2 that I could spot were Sammy Cs and Senior Frogs, both long gone. Im sure there might be others that need some reforming.
2. I was wondering if some vendors not on the list might like to be, such as: The Fashionista, Butter, Red Kiwi, and how about some of the hair salons?
I LOVE THIS PROGRAM AND I WANT TO SEE IT GROW AND SUCCEED
Understand that the program is run by a volunteer. Sammy C's and Senor Frogs just closed a week or two ago. Give them time to change the list. Keeping Code 33 going is not a paying job, it is something that the Village of Center Grove does to help merchants and residents. They try to update the list monthly. Look for decals in store windows.
