Getting some results on the post office mess

Looks like Harry's photos which we ran here last week struck a nerve. US Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen wants answers.

Comm. Marc Sarnoff wrote a letter to Ros-Lehtinen. I love Marc's quote: "The condition of this property could be described as deplorable, but that would be elevating the condition of this property."

True that.

Just another example of how stupid our federal government is. Why rip up a parking lot before the plans/permits for the new one are approved? That doesn't make sense. Although on a less important scale, it's just as stupid as going to war over WMD that don't exist and for oil that we aren't getting. Can't wait for Bush and his lieing administration to get lost. He is ruining our country and he is letting gas prices bankrupt our nation. Step 1 ... fix the post office. Step 2 ... get out of Iraq. Step 3 ... drill for oil in Alaska.

Harry Gottlieb deserves much credit for his great photos and again alerting everyone to the deplorable condition of the Grove Post Office. And Commissioner Sarnoff wrote a great letter to Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen. I hope the graffiti has been removed. Obviously, nothing can be done about the many destroyed 50 year old trees.

I really hope that the existing post office can be fixed up and stays open. I like having a 'neighborhood' post office to go to. Really don't want to just give up and go up to the Gables location.
Just yesterday I went there (the grove PO) to mail a package and was saddened to see the very same liquor bottle as in the picture still sitting upright where it was left who knows how long ago.
It's a shame to see a public building and grounds in such terrible shape, but it surely can be fixed.
The permitting issue *might* be legitimate. There's several projects in my company that have been held up 8+ months waiting for permits in this busy construction time.
I still must question though - if they didn't need to follow local law when they cut down the trees, why do they feel the need to follow local law NOW by waiting for permits? By their earlier argument, you'd think they could just thumb their nose at local gov't and build away...hmmmm.

While it is always a little 'slow' service there, I cannot complain one bit about the friendly employees I meet each visit. Many times I need help learning how to do things like address an FPO shipment, fill out customs forms, etc., and the employees there are always polite and helpful.
