Playhouse charrette update

Not much really came out of the weekend Playhouse Charrette. Lots of talk, no answers. The Herald has a recap here.

I really don't like the idea of Aries Development being involved. I guess the word "development" scares me. One of the plans has residents somewhere ensconced in the new playhouse. I don't like that.

I know Aries gave the playhouse the money when they needed it, but that is like selling your soul to the devil, it would have been better if a philanthropist like Adrienne Arsht stepped in, rather than a developer. Adrienne is the one who gave all those millions to the failing Carnival Center. But I guess you can't have
it all.

The saga continues . . .

I know, the idea of "residents" is not a good thing. Any time developers are involved it scares me, too.

I love this blog, but why is it so biased against all developers? Granted, developers are motivated by money to develop property, but there are a lot of developers that have a social conscience too. We all live in residences and shop in stores that exist because of these 'dreaded' developers.

If this developer has given money before, without anything in return, they are probably one of the developers with a social conscience. Can't we just be happy that someone with money coughed up some cash when it was needed? Why are we so suspect?

I have to agree with Grape on this one, developers don't do anything for anyone without ulterior motives. Fact of life.

Aren't these the same people who knocked down the beloved Taurus? What happened to their social conscience then?

In all honesty, it's about time they tear down the playhouse. It hasn't done anything for anybody. There's got to be a better use of that space. Not another (unsellable) condo, but maybe a nice group of restaurants, or a mixed restaurants and park.

It will rub tons of people the wrong way, but that little area, from the delapidated little yellow building through the parking to the theater is an eyesore.

Good thing the readers of this blog live in homes created by the Magic Housing Fairy and not some dreadful box built by an evil developer.

Oh yes, more restaurants...that's what the Grove needs. Pleeeeeeze. What is it in this town? Everyone wants to run off to NY to see plays but have trouble getting out of restaurants and bars to expand their mind a little when they're in Miami? Do you really have to be over 60 to enjoy a good play?

The Playhouse is a bit of Grove history that should stay right where it is and demands good administration and a creative mind. There are many well-known and successful actors who produce plays in little theaters such as this one.

It seems to me that the only consideration for some people is what looks bad. Looks bad to whom? Not everything that isn't developed to the hilt is an eyesore! So put up some trees...it seems to have improved Grand a lot! No...lets build more glitzy buildings with restaurants that have poor service, lousy food and are difficult to park near to.

I'm getting very discouraged with these grandiose plans. I have nothing against good development which often just means improving what we have and not building more food establishments and 'unsellable" (if there is such a word) condos!

Adrienne Arsht already has her name up in lights. Maybe she could call this "the annex?"
