Eliminating more parking spaces

The Miami Parking Authority and the towing companies are doing a brisk business this week. More parking has been taken away from the Center Grove and I'm not sure what the point is.

Cars were towed from in front of FedEx and the 24 Hour Fitness gym all day this week. As you see by the sign, there is no parking from 7 am to 4 pm. You can park there after that until 2 am, which is a joke, since there are not many places to go here in the Grove until 2 am, especially in that end of town, it's pitch dark at night. In other words, you can park when there is no reason to park, you're allowed to do that.

So originally about a dozen spaces were removed for no apparent reason from Mary Street down to the entrance to the Mayfair Promenade, you know, where The Spillover is. Now another dozen or so spaces were removed on both sides of the street from there to Virginia Street. They are bus or loading zones. It's a lot of space for that.

For awhile there, they were doing a brisk towing business at the other end on Main Highway. It's unconscionable. Parking should be added, not removed.

So many of you hate the scooters and mopeds, but to be honest, that may be the only way left to get around town if you can't find car parking.

The towing and booting scam ended awhile back, so I guess they need to raise more revenue another way.

I wonder why Grove businesses don't approach the BID or Miami Parking Authority over this constant elimination of parking spaces, it affects their bottom lines. If people can't find parking, they drive off and go elsewhere, that's a fact. If people are ticketed or towed, the never come back. That's a fact. Not a very good business model.

If you get a parking ticket, you might want to consider the DoNotPay app, the Robin Hood of the internet, that will fight it for you, not sure, but they fight bureaucracy, so perhaps they'll fight the towing, too.

such crap - just like in front of st stephens, and that spot next to chugs that everyone always gets towed from. whats the point forcing everyone into some garage or distant lot if I want to pop in and grab a sandwich, cookie, coffee, anything?? the banana republic is getting worse with zero elected officials doing a thing but self service.

This is ridiculous. And, the delivery trucks don't even use the "loading zone", they park in the middle of the street. I wonder if I can park in the middle of the street to go to lunch. I can't stand the MPA. This is all their doing.

Tom, did you review DoNotPayapp(DNP)?It's an auto-renewal police like GoDaddy. Once they get your billing info; bank, credit card, pay pal there will be no end to their billing. Read carefully folks. They clearly state they offer nothing, but can bill you accordingly.

Thank you Grapevine. It seems like the Miami Parking Authority is actually a mafia with Art Noriega as the godfather.

I was one of the victims of this change this week. What for years had been a legal spot suddenly changed, and having parked there for years I parked their instinctively without reading the forest of signs.

I wonder if the new tour bus zone in from of the new Coconut Grove Village of shops was placed their intentionally and at the request of that business owner. I haven't seen a tour bus in years in the Grove, but when they return it will be good for that store to have them dumped in front of it.

While we're at it, why would tour buses come to the Grove now anyway, unless it's a survey of road closures and construction zones? The charm that once attracted visitors to our village does not exist at the moment - I would wait to reserve spots for tour buses until the charm has returned!
