This towing/booting scam has got to stop

On a Friday afternoon, I was at Florentine Plaza doing the story about the merchants. I was with a few of them at the area near Lulu's. As we spoke, we were constantly interrupted by the merchants running across the street to warn people who were parking, that they were in a "no parking/commercial loading zone." For the hour I was there, cars kept parking and then being shooed away by the merchants in order to protect them from the booting/towing scam going on around town.

Here is the sign, it is quite clear, yet I guess it doesn't make sense to people that four empty parking spaces just sit there. Empty. So I guess it makes sense to them to park, only the tow trucks are lying in wait.

This is the scene at 2 pm on Friday. An hour from when Sylvano wrote his Call to Action, he says that was at 1 pm on Friday. Same thing - empty parking spaces - valuable parking spaces wasted.

In the background of this one photo, you can see the new office building going up, which will have offices and restaurant space and only 24 parking spaces. Where are their tenants and visitors supposed to park?

This can be resolved by a community effort. You say merchants are shooing drivers away from these greedy menace. We'll call this community effort # 1. Get the Grove Ambassador to do the same, say every other hour, effort # 2. The Grape can ask for Grovites, say folks who have been towed or booted previously and have a bone to pick to stand guard, say 1 hr. each, effort # 3. Then whatever comes to mind. It would appear these tow truck drivers lay in wait. Time is money. This community effort will cost them time and money and wasted gas/diesel fuel. Some of these tow truck drivers leave a lot to be desired in the way of social skills and perhaps one might get out of their vehicle and make a threat and presto, off to jail and their truck can get towed. I don't understand what exactly is the "SCAM" that you speak of. Please explain. I agree that the Grove doesn't need that many commercial loading spaces but the signs are clearly marked so I don't think the City or the towing companies are trying to mislead people. If you don't want to get ticketed/towed/booted then don't park where you shouldn't.
