Johnny Rockets building is gone!
It was only last week when we were reminiscing about Senior Frogs and Oak Feed and now they are ghosts of the past. As the construction workers tore down the walls of the former Johnny Rockets building at 3036 Grand Avenue, Johnny Rockets, Miami Subs, Senior Frogs, Oak Feed, Pross Liquors and so many old tenants went the way of the wind. This image is the latest rendering of what might come.
The building is now just two walls, left standing to avoid demolition costs.
To be honest, that building was always a hodgepodge mess and maybe what goes in now won't be so bad, although if you look at the latest rendering, it's not really that great either and this image of Johnny Rockets seems a whole lot better and is full of life.
One thing that bothers me is all the skirting around zoning rules through loopholes and calling it a gut renovation, I've been seeing houses do that lately. They didn't have to deal with a demolition permit or get City Commission permission, which the would have approved anyway, because two walls were left up but at least they have some sort of scaffolding and you can use the sidewalks there, just barely. CocoWalk got away with closing two full sidewalks for years without any ramifications.

Let’s hope the new construction will provide abalance with the corner building across the street and offsets the sore-thumb ugliness of Mr.C Hotel. And, while on ugliness, if any more sore-thumbs like 3480 Main St are built, it will be a long time before Coconut Grove regains its charm and beauty.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Mr. C Hotel is an eye sore.
What do you mean that the building is just two walls to avoid demolition costs? They already demolished everything else, how much more can it cost to demolish two walls?
I look at the Johnny Rockets picture and see the trees we don't have anymore. The renderings only show a few weak palm trees. Little by little our trees are disappearing.
