The Venice in the Gables project

Remember our Peacock Tour in 2010 where a bunch of fiberglass peacocks were painted and placed around town?

There have also been the Calle Ocho Roosters and the Manatees in the City of South Miami and Pinecrest had the dogs and there were so many other great installations.

Coral Gables had flamingos years ago and now they have Venetian columns as part of their Venice in the Gables installation.

It is to celebrate the completion of the Miracle Mile renovation.

Eight foot tall replicas of Venetian mooring posts will be placed around the streets in Coral Gables. Right now they are being painted. Our own Grove artist Eileen Seitz (lower right in this picture with Rei Ramirez at left and Carlos Barbon in back) is part of the painting group. 100 artists submitted images and 30 were chosen for this project.

There is a pop-up studio at 135 Miracle Mile where you can watch the artists work, they are only there a couple more days, from 9 am to 7 pm. There are six artists working in the storefront, the other artists are working at their own studios or homes.

This reminds me of our Peacock Tour when there was a studio at the Mayfair Promenade where we could watch the artists paint the peacocks.

I love that 135 Miracle Mile is being used, too, because many years ago, one of my best friends had a store at that location!

Here are a bunch of photos and stories on our Coconut Grove Peacock Tour in 2010.
