Arbor condo partners with Million Trees Miami
Arbor, the leafy, 52-residence boutique condominium rising on Oak Avenue in the heart of Coconut Grove, has announced an official partnership with Miami-Dade County’s Million Trees Miami Campaign, a community-wide effort to plant one million trees by 2020 in order to achieve a 30 percent tree canopy, which is the national standard for a healthy urban environment.
An initiative of Neat Streets Miami, Million Trees Miami was created to bring awareness to the importance of sustainable urban forests, and the social, economic, and environmental benefits they provide, including the enhanced quality of communities and their sustained livability.
To assist the County in achieving this goal, Arbor’s lead developer, Nick Hamann, a Coconut Grove resident and principal with Urban Atlantic Group, has committed to registering the trees planted at Arbor with the Million Trees Miami campaign, becoming the first residential developer to participate in the community-wide initiative. Arbor and Million Trees Miami will also team-up throughout the year to host educational and hands-on tree planting events, with the first slated for May 18, 2018 at Coconut Grove Elementary School.
“We are excited to partner with Million Trees Miami and do our part to help create a livable, healthy, and sustainable community,” said Hamann. “It’s important that we set a good policy and lead by example. If we all work together, we can find creative solutions to create and maintain a sustainable urban environment for future generations. We hope our partnership will raise awareness and encourage others to join the cause.”
“Due to Miami-Dade County’s rapid development and recent devastating storms, we all need to do our part to help our tree canopy recover,” said Neat Streets Miami Chairman, Miami-Dade County District 9 Commissioner Dennis C. Moss. “By greening up Miami-Dade County, we are not only creating attractive gateways, but also improving the quality of life for our residents and visitors.”
“In order to obtain an accurate tree count and reach our million tree goal, it is essential to have the participation of our community, including developers like Arbor,” added Moss. “We are grateful to have Arbor’s support and thank them for taking action.”
With the County’s Million Trees Miami initiative, Miami-Dade County joins other metropolitan cities around the country such as Philadelphia, New York City, Los Angeles, Charlotte, and Washington D.C. that have recognized the contributions that trees bring to our communities by launching their own city-wide tree campaigns.
“With climate change and rising sea levels threatening South Florida, trees provide many benefits to our community, including mitigating the effects of flooding and pollution and anchoring existing and future natural resources. They also contribute greatly to the economy, encouraging walkable, bike-friendly communities such as Coconut Grove with its unique tree canopy,” added Hamann.
