VO2 Max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during maximum intensity exercise. The higher your VO2 Max, the higher your aerobic endurance is and the better your cardiovascular fitness is.
An elite athlete has a VO2 max of around 60+ mL/kg/min., whereas someone who can't live independently would have a VO2 max below 20 mL/kg/min.
