The "old days"
I took them to the side of Mayfair where the Burdines sign is still up. They weren't too sure what Burdines was. It's interesting how everyone's "old days" are different. When I mentioned Ensign Bitters and the old Winn-Dixie at Virginia and Grand and the gas station across the street from that and Oak Feed, etc. they were flabbergasted.
They loved this old Burdines sign at Mayfair and wondered how long it would remain with the destructive developers enveloping Coconut Grove. "Burdines at Mayfair Lane," it sounds so quaint.
I guess in 20 years or so, today will be the "old days" that others loved.

The Cafe Iguana mural is still up on the 3rd floor of the Mayfair office building. You gotta weasel your way up there since an access card is needed.
now that sapient knocked down the fake wall on the second floor of where the bookstore in the grove used to be (or banana republic - depending on your definition of "old days") you can see the original concrete work of what the entrance was once like...
