'Painting Heroes' exhibit premiers Saturday
Jake Johnson surrounded himself with his childhood heroes after his father passed away and his brother disappeared. He filled his world with sci-fi. Those experiences provided him the inspiration to become an artist.
From the brochure: "As a painter, Jake, shown here, has traveled and lived in many parts of the world, including China. These experiences offered him the opportunity to study art at the global level. Jake's work empahsizes a past historical glory in art, both of Western and Eastern cultures. His paintings today are becoming a leading part of a revival in these classics and his paintings of heroes are becoming a leading part of a revival in contemporary art. Jake's artwork has has acquired national and international recognition. He has been showcased in the Wetpaint Exhibition at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, the Prince Street Gallery in New York, and his work is also held by collectors at the international level."
The art opening is from 7 to 10 pm. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery is at the Mayfair Atrium (by the bull sculpture).
