'Painting Heroes' exhibit premiers Saturday

The gallery at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival is having a new opening on Saturday, March 7 called "Painting Heroes." This is right up my alley.

Jake Johnson surrounded himself with his childhood heroes after his father passed away and his brother disappeared. He filled his world with sci-fi. Those experiences provided him the inspiration to become an artist.

From the brochure: "As a painter, Jake, shown here, has traveled and lived in many parts of the world, including China. These experiences offered him the opportunity to study art at the global level. Jake's work empahsizes a past historical glory in art, both of Western and Eastern cultures. His paintings today are becoming a leading part of a revival in these classics and his paintings of heroes are becoming a leading part of a revival in contemporary art. Jake's artwork has has acquired national and international recognition. He has been showcased in the Wetpaint Exhibition at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, the Prince Street Gallery in New York, and his work is also held by collectors at the international level."

The art opening is from 7 to 10 pm. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery is at the Mayfair Atrium (by the bull sculpture).
