Delay in South Bayshore Drive project

Ron Nelson, Commissioner Marc Sarnoff's Chief of Staff, stated at last month's Waterfront Implementation Committee meeting,  that the South Bayshore Drive project regarding renovation of the road, bike lanes, and walkways have been put off by Miami-Dade County. The infrastructure on Main Highway from McFarland Road to Devon Road needs emergency repairs and replacement, and must be completed before work can begin on South Bayshore Drive.

The Main Highway project is slated for a June start date. So this will probably put the South Bayshore project off for a year now.

"..must be completed before work can begin on South Bayshore Drive."

That's the spirit. How about "completing" the work on 27th AV, perhaps this Decade, and, then, Bird, probably another Decade, and then, maybe, start with S. Bayshore in the 2030's?

That would be more feasible and realistic.

There have been dangerous street light outages some nights on South Bayshore Drive and this past Saturday morning witnessed a scooter hit by a car on 27th Avenue in front of the Burger King with injury.

Funny, before this announcement, the complaints were why was S. Bayshore done at the same time of 27th, now that it is postponed, they complain. People like to complain!

Wait a minute! If there is an emergency on Main Hwy why isn't it in the news?

What is this ”emergency” requiring the tearing up of Main Hwy. How else are we supposed to get around?

You folks need to relax and drive appropriately. Better yet, go back to school and learn how to make everything more efficient and perfect; otherwise welcome to reality. Jobie Steppe

Finish 27th, completely. Then, hopefully in 2022, start with the Project for the 22nd Century : S. Bayshore Dr. (Hopefully by then the Kennedy Park bathrooms will also have been re-opened, stinking a bit less)

Emergency repair or new high rise in the horizon?

Nelson is busy man. He just got his add on to Regatta Park--trading parking spaces for Dinner Key Marina patrons for sailboat staging and long term storage for boats. Not a bad idea but a long walk from the launching area. What parking there is at DKM is a long, dark walk from the piers.
