The South Bayshore Drive improvements project
The project includes road widening, bike lanes and landscaping and while everyone seems happy about the project, especially bikers who need a real bike lane, I feel that one underlying aspect of the project is the sewer and water lines.
The project extends from Mercy Hospital's entrance to Darwin Street; prime land for high rises up and down South Bayshore. I know it's not going to happen overnight, but it is something to think about. It's what they appeared to do on SW 27 Avenue to allow for larger pipes on the water's side of South Bayshore Drive, to accommodate that Grove Harbour mall on the water. And this was long before the vote or even before the subject of the project came up. Also, talk is that SW 27 Avenue will be prime for highrise development once that project is done. Bird Avenue is next.
The flooding that happens on South Bayshore Drive is usually at one section of Kennedy Park, it seems odd to redo the whole stretch of road to aleviate that one small area where water builds up in heavy rains.
One interesting thing to watch is how the Grove Isle proposed project plays out. If the developer is giving permission to add the four proposed condo, this could be the beginning of the end for North Grove which would in time become Brickell South.
