Drumming on

Drum Circle at last month's King Mango Strut

Saturday night's FAM Night was a bit subdued as most, if not all of the galleries were closed. There were about six groups of live musicians around the village who brought a bit of life to the area and the best part of course was the Drum Circle who were in their new home - out in front of The Barnacle. They sounded great, they drew crowds and they weren't as loud as you would think while under the shelter.

It seems that when some of the local businesses turned their back on them, the state came to the rescue (The Barnacle is state-run). You would think it would be the other way around and that the locals would embrace our local Drum Circle.

As for the galleries, I'm really kind of shocked that they were not open for FAM Night as that is all they have to do - open once a month. I can understand needing a break, but they have 30 days between gigs to have a break, even if the same exhibit is shown from December, the least they could have done was be open.

On the other hand, Drum Circle is up for anything and anywhere, they drum in parks, FAM Night, they were a hit at this year's King Mango Strut and they'll say "yes," to any invitation.

As for FAM Night itself, FAM stands for Fashion + Art + Music, Saturday night was Music Night, as that is all that was happening. Maybe next month will be FA Night - Fashion + Art and maybe the next month could be AM Night - Art + Music.
