Drumming around the rain drops
The nomadic Coconut Grove Drum Circle was at the Mayfair Promenade this past Saturday, during Gallery Walk. You'll remember that last month, they drew quite a crowd by being right on Main Highway, in the center of town. With the palm trees and fountain at the Promenade, it all seemed very primitive this time. This month, they had to dodge rain drops, but they had quite a nice performance.
Sandy Speier has been getting into the beat lately and has shown up at the drum circles in all their incarnations around town.
Mark Richards, gives directions. He is head of the drum circle, with Richard Deilke and Liz Gibson. They along, with Karen Deilke coordinate the Drum Circle each month.
It's fun and soothing and draws a nice crowd. They drum well into the night, or until the neighbors yell, "Enough!"
Karen Deilke, at left, all wet from the rain, but no worse for wear. Maria Freed at her first drum circle, with veteran Sandy Speier.
Uta still had on her paper dress, which was part of the Live Paper Dolls runway show earlier in the night. Al, always adds a haunting sound to the Drum Circles with his flute.
The next Drum Circle is Saturday, September 3, for the next Gallery Walk, it will also be a Pajama Night, since it's the Pajama Pub Crawl night, the big event before the Great Grove Bed Race, the next day.
