Raising money for college fund

As many of you know, Barry Alberts, the "Grove Wine Guy," passed away in a car accident a couple of months ago. The family would like to thank the over 300 people who attended Barry's memorial at the Coconut Grove Woman's Club in April.

Now a college fund has been set up for his 15-year-old daughter Alexis.

Alexis has acquired a painting, shown here, that was commissioned by her father called “The Wine Lady,” by artist Neith Nevelson, a Coconut Grove icon in her own right. The painting is a cherished piece of her father’s legacy and she wishes to auction it. The starting bid on the painting is $10,000. If anyone wishes to bid on the painting and make an appointment to see it, arrangements can be made thru Cindy Bettner, Alexis' mother.

They are asking for donations in Barry’s memory. A Florida Prepaid university cost $43,000 for 4 years. The goal is to raise these funds for Alexis. All Donations can be made payable directly in Alexis Albert’s name and will be directed to the college fund which has been already set up for her.

You can reach Cindy or Alexis at 786-355-4800 or you may email them at c_bettner@yahoo.com.

In addition, in October the Miami Taste of Brickell Food & Wine Festival will be featuring a fine wine and gourmet food extravaganza to raise money for Alexis. Barry was the fine wine and spirits consultant for the Miami Taste of Brickell since its inauguration and his skill and expertise was essential to the Festivals success.
