"An act of brazen skulduggery"
one big thing is that this is tied in with a renewal of Bayside's lease downtown along with renovations, so if you approve the Bayside lease, you are stuck approving the SkyRise tower.
It should have been a separate vote. Charles calls it "an outrageous and deliberate act by the City Commission to limit our choices and to dupe the voters.
There is a petition against the project here, but Charles also plans a couple of lawsuits against the City.
We suggest voting NO on August 26, which is also a problem as all of these shady deals in the City of Miami have occurred in the summer when many people are out of town or not in the mood to vote, after all, the City of Coconut Grove was stolen by the City of Miami in 1925 this way. The more things change the more . . . well, you know.

Gotta love the expression, "An act of brazen skulduggery "had to Google it up:
a Shameless, bold act of "underhanded or unscrupulous behavior; trickery."
Sounds City Hellish, on occasion..
How did our district's Commissioner Sarnoff vote on this one? let's get the record straight to begin with. My guess is he went along the strict line of always supporting all sort of boondoggles against the wishes of constituents and to the benefit of personal supporters and large developers.
Marc Sarnoff was an aggressive supporter of SkyRise. He voted to approve the lease and he voted to approve the extension of the lease with General Growth Properties even though every witness stated Bayside Marketplace is a dump and GGP has been a slumlord. Oh, the developer, Berkowitz, stated he likes wifey. Hmm.
