Changes around the Center Grove
I've heard everything from Segafredo taking the Johnny Rockets location to Michael's Genuine taking the Barnickle space next to GreenStreet. I've reached out to Michael's Genuine PR department and got no response and I've checked with PointeGroup, who now owns the Johnny Rockets space and they tell me there are no plans yet other than to clean up the place.
The Johnny Rockets location looks so clean now without the tables surrounding the business. I was thinking maybe any other type of business, other than a restaurant might be good there. The architecture of the building is interesting, sort of looks mid century Americana. I did have a friend mention Shake Shack. Now other than the Glass House, that might be a great spot for that. The just might do enough volume to pay the rent there.
Rumors have been going around about the former Guess store location. People are saying it is supposed to turn into offices, but reps from PointeGroup, the owners, told me they are not. We'll have to see. Across the street, the Sapient ad group is going to start moving their first phase of employees in in the next month or so, the scaffolding is down on Grand Avenue and furniture is being moved into their Mayfair location.

Michael's Genuine would make a good addition to the Grove. They have great food, service and it's always busy.
For the Johnny Rockets location, I think a Chipotle would be great there. That is another place that is always busy and we be great not having to drive to South Miami to get some.

So the whole Bar Nickle plan died before it even opened its doors? Hasn't it been almost a year in the making?
Does anyone remember Reggae Tacos in downtown? It closed last summer, but I think it would do very well in the Grove.
A good fast casual place would be welcome. I'd love to spend more of my $$ in the Grove but find that the options are limited in the $10 range. Chipotle is great but it would be a parking/traffic mess. I actually thought it would be interesting for them to go into the empty lot on the corner of Grand and Douglas (37th). Cheaper rent district, would revitalize that area, plus they seem to be all about community.
the one thing the grove already has is great tacos.
I also heard that we have a few more closings to look forward to in the next few months, including Cheesecake factory, which can apparently thrive at every mall in america, but not make it in center grove. I know you'll all say good riddance, but who's going to fill all these spaces at these prices? And what about Sarnoff's new mall on the bay and all those spaces?
I am picturing tumbleweeds blowing through cocowalk in the near future.
So Cheesecake is the next one rumored to go? It always seems busy and the food is pretty good. They've had a really long run in their current location.
Cocowalk is in such a sad state.
What is the good taco place? That 4x6 closet? Its seems OK but it's impossible to eat there. And there's no tables nearby. Went there with my wife and 2 kids and it was put off by how inconvenient it is...I'm a bog an of street food, but you can't even eat standing on the sidewalk with all the pedestrians spinning you around.
And what's the deal with so much anonymty here?
"Donn K" is a very cool name
