Tree Huggers are not gonna like this
When a resident does this they are fined. When the county does it, it's progress. This was the scene at 27th and South Bayshore Drive today. Preparation of the 27th Avenue renovation. If it's gonna look like this, forget the renovation.
The permit for this job was issued in 2008. It is to make way for boaters who need to maneuver better into the Seminole Boat Ramp, according to one of the workers on site. It's a median area that apparently is not needed. City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and County Commisioner Xavier Suarez along with County Mayor Carlos Gimenez were all called today, they all shrugged their shoulders and said, this was permitted, nothing we can do. Which is total BS since this is not private property and with one word from any of them, the job could have been stopped and assessed. Who was going to sue them for stopping the tree massacre? The City? The County? They ARE the City and County.
The Ritz Carlton trees were not touched. They know what hell they would have received from the Ritz Carlton neighbors. People pleaded with the workers to stop, the workers threatened to cut the trees and let them drop on top of people if they didn't move. You know, the way it is, do this now and apologize later.
The tree company should have had police redirecting traffic, but they didn't have any police on site, apparently the tree company is keeping that money. It's a big mess and business as usual around here. Some sort of mitigation, like 48 trees, is in the process. Kill the big old shade trees and put in crappy little trees, that's how it works.
