What next? Big light up billboards on S. Bayshore?

I love how all this nonsense escapes everyone, even though we are all told that we have been notified. Sort of reminds me of how Coconut Grove was stolen by the City of Miami in 1925. Things seem to happen when we're all asleep. Only I don't think we are all asleep, I think it is arranged to happen when we are not looking or listening.

Sue McConnell, President of the Village of Center Grove, upon inquiring about yesterday's
tree massacre was given the following info by the Public Works Department:

"The project was presented numerous times to the residents where it was discussed that trees would be removed to accommodate the project and new trees would be planted to mitigate the removals. In the area in question, the road is being widened to accommodate a right turn lane, which requires that the existing trees be removed.

"The City of Miami regulates and permits all tree removals within the City; their process is more stringent than the County DERM requirements as they actually post signs along the corridor for 30 days denoting which trees will be removed to allow the residents to comment. Please note that we will mitigate the removals with as many new trees as possible."

I have a question: Has anyone seen these signs that have been up around the trees threatening their annihilation? I am sure all the walkers, runners and joggers would have been furious and would have said something if these said signs were posted ahead of time as the Public Works Department has stated.

This is nonsense. What person in their right mind would agree to have huge oak trees removed, massacred in fact, to be replaced by a few smaller trees? Can just ONE PERSON please email me that you have known about this and were aware of this information? I mean, I consider it my job to know this stuff, but I had no clue and no one I know had a clue, no one from Tree Watch or any of the groups. I find it interesting that even Sue, who is up on every little thing that happens around here had no clue and needed to ask the Public Works Department why this was done.

Sue had no clue. (That should be the headline here). If Sue had no clue, how did anyone with the City and County expect anyone else to have a clue?

And when people did have a problem at the site of the massacre yesterday, I wonder why the politicians in charge just shrugged it off. The taxpayers in this town never have a say it seems. Never. My friend's little boy saw the photos posted yesterday and he started crying. Even children care about our tree canopy. You just can't have anything nice, as the saying goes.

I now shudder to think of what is going to happen in the Center Grove with the planned tree removal and sidewalk repairs. Details on that mess here, here and here.
