Artist presents secret world of Birds of Prey

Award winning artist and naturalist Jim Arnosky will demonstrate how he creates his amazing art and will talk about his animal adventures at The Bookstore in the Grove (3399 Virginia Street), on Friday, April 8 at 4:00 pm.

He will also perform a sing-along with his guitar and he'll sign copies of his books which include "Wild Tracks!: A Guide to Nature's Footprints," "Slither and Crawl: Eye to Eye with Reptiles," and his newest book, "Thunder Birds: Nature's Flying Predators."

Jim is a self-taught artist who has learned how to create stunning illustrations of all kinds of animals by venturing into the remote wilderness to observe animals in their natural habitat. He won numerous awards for his books.

In addition, he had the rare opportunity to work with one of America’s most influential singer/songwriters, Bob Dylan. Jim has long admired Bob Dylan's work for its integrity, independent viewpoint, and timeless quality, and he is the creator of the magnificent illustrations for the picture book edition of Dylan’s song, "Man Gave Names to All the Animals," which also includes an accompanying CD of the original recording.

In Thunder Birds, Jim Arnosky has created a breathtaking, detailed, and eye-opening beginner’s field guide — this time about winged predators. Young nature-lovers can bring the wilderness right into their room with this gorgeously illustrated compendium of birds with their tremendous wingspans, razor-sharp claws, and powerful beaks. With more than sixty life-size winged predators to investigate — from hawks to herons, from ospreys to owls — Thunder Birds draws out kids' inner explorer and helps imaginations take flight. It’s the perfect gift for a budding naturalist, animal lover, or artist.
