Burn Notice back in town filming their new season
The Burn Notice crew was out filming on Friday in Coconut Grove. They were just a block away from their studio, filming at the Ritz-Carlton entrance at 27th Avenue and Tigertail, their studio is at 27th Avenue and S. Bayshore Drive. This was the first episode of the new season. Above is Jeffrey Donovan, star of the show. It's amazing how close to home they stay when they can. Many of the scenes which look like they are far away are sometimes mere feet from their studio. The Carlito's restaurant set is literally a few feet from Michael Westen's loft exterior. It's the same building, they share the same wall. If you pan the camera from one to the other, there is about 20 feet between the two.
We tried to not get in the way, so we were standing with the crew, near the producer and the director, actually under the tent where the film equipment is kept. They have about four monitors that are watched far from the actual camera filming. It was a scene with Jeffrey Donovan, Sharon Gless and Coby Bell. You can see them in front of the camera above.
It was a long scene -- Coby would say something to them and then walk away and Sharon and Jeffrey would remain in camera view talking, while Coby walked off and took his coat off and got comfortable with the crew, all while the scene was still going on. It was that long.
Under the tent, far from the action, a lady would call out lines to the actors, who would forget them once in awhile. She did this into some sort of microphone, which probably alerted someone right there near the actual filming.
Here's Sharon again consulting with a crew member between takes. It was one long scene that took most of the morning to film. The production crew seemed giddy to be back in town filming. They had to wait for the sun to come out a few times and they joked about Florida weather. It wasn't raining, there were just clouds above.
As they waited, Jeffrey would walk back and forth to the production tent and confer with the director, who ironically, is not standing next to the actors and the camera when they film, but he is hundreds of feet away in a tent where all the monitors and equipment is.
The crew mentioned to each other all the shows being filmed in Miami these days, one said about the ever changing weather, "You have to get used to Miami weather if you want to be here with "Charlie's Angels," "Glades," and "Magic City," naming all the other tv shows in town to film.
We'll get more and better photos as the season goes on. I didn't want to be too much of a pest their first week back, but it was nice to see that people knew me there as the Grapevine guy and many knew my name. So next time I see them around, I'll stop again and get more.
