"A Taming of the Shrew" starts three-day run
"The Taming of the Shrew" will be performed tonight, January 15, at 7:30 pm, also January 16 and 17 at 7:30 pm and on January 17, there is also a 2:00 pm matinee.
Tomorrow, January 16 at noon, there is a Children's Tea with Shakespeare story hour.
All performances are free (although they are asking for a dollar or two donation for The Barnacle).
Local businesses stepped in to keep the event in Coconut Grove by raising funds in the business community. The City of Miami's Parks Department had to cut the program from Peacock Park because of budget cuts in the City.
The 12 foot kangaroo hide bullwhip which the Shrew snaps around on stage is the actual whip used in the latest Indiana Jones film. It turns out that the stunt double for Harrison Ford lives in Orlando, and he is friends with Shakespeare Miami's Stage Manager, Mario Xavier. Mario asked and his friend agreed to the loan.
