Taurus memorial plaques to be reinstalled

Many people are familiar with the plaques bearing the names of deceased Taurus “regulars,” which used to be mounted on the walls of the famous and beloved Taurus Bar. These plaques are to be reinstalled in the new Taurus, and there's a party to celebrate, on Friday, February 12, at 6 pm.

It will be held, of course, at The Taurus, Another Round, 3540 Main Highway. There will be live music, happy hour prices on well drinks all evening, and “Off the Wall” t-shirts for sale.

Remember those? If you were not “on the wall,” then, you were “off the wall.”

If you would like to say a few words about any of the people on the plaques, or, if you have photos you would like to share, please contact Deborah Crisp at 305-567 9802 or ddcrisp@msn.com, to be included in the program.

Please spread the word to everyone you know who has ever visited the Taurus. If you still own an “I’m sooooo Butch” hat, or the Butch costume you bought at auction a few years ago, you might consider wearing those costumes this evening. It should be a fun, but tear-jerking event. Please RSVP to
ddcrisp@msn.com.

One of the earliest plaques was for Jerry Sloane. I saw him at the Taurus counting nickles to pay for a $1.00 happy hour beer, and I bought it for him. An elderly gentleman, he was dressed in paint smeared clothes and could barely walk. Turns out he was loaded and donated Old Masters to the "U" for the tax writeoff. Who knew? Then there was Allison Berkeley who was a bank manager, Nassau who shined shoes, and Russell that made my first custon sandals. Seems like a lot of friends will be remembered...

And let's not forget about Drano! Wonderful, colorful Drano and his three-wheeled bicycle!

I'm Jerry Sloane's daughter. I loved hearing your description of him, Judi. You got him all right! Wish I could be there tonight. Deborah has something my sister and I wrote and a pic. And....he was the first plaque. It was on his chair before it was on the wall.
