Suspect being sought in Grove assault

Many of you may know that there was a terrible crime committed over the weekend.

This is a computer generated image sent out by Miami Police of the suspect who stalked and then robbed and raped a young lady on the 3200 block of Virginia Street on Saturday, October 31, about 5:20 am.

The woman had just returned home and was accosted at her own front gate at gunpoint.

According to police, the suspect is approximately 5'7", late 20's, 160 lbs, medium built, last seen wearing all black with a black mask that covered most of his face. The suspect has a distinctive brown mark on the white portion of his right eye.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Special Victims Unit at (305) 603-6300 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS."

I dont understand where our priorities are. Half of our "village" would probably be ranked in the top 10 most dangerous places in the entire country yet our focus seems to be on making sure bars are not allowed to stay open until 5 am. Am I missing something? And if the answer is that these hard core criminals are the patrons at 5 am than you are wrong.

Why is it that this enormous problem that is village west is never part of any discussion/action?

Anon 11:25. I completely agree with your assessment. The problem is that it is politically incorrect to address the obvious problems just down the street from the center grove. That would be "racist." As a result, all of our lives are in danger, our businesses suffer and our quality of life deteriorates!

of course Grape don't print my response, but was this guy black, if not why is there a pic of a black man? It should be taken down Grape. People start to freak out because they think its always blacks, but that is not the case

This is the same description that was in the Herald and on all the TV news reports.

I got the coconut grove crimewatch alert email on saturday and it is the same description as the photo. black male, wearing all black clothing. I understand people's desire not to generalize and say that all black people commit crimes, as they clearly do not, however, in this particular instance, the description was a black male and therefore the photo corresponds to same.

To Anon 11:25 - what does this have to do with bars staying open till 5am? nothing.

This happened now, with 3 am bar closings. maybe with bars open till 5am, there would be more presence in and around the grove by police and otherwise.

Don't use such tragic and heinous events to push your agenda, you Glenn Beck wannabe!

I agree with anon 1:39. I think if the bars were open until 5 am there would be more people on the streets as well as more of a police presence and this girl may not have been attacked

Funny, I immediately thought the same thing but didn't post on it because I didn't want to draw the wrath that I tend to draw or to seem insensitive. I used to live a half block down Day from where this occurred, and often ran at 5:30 a.m. from there to the waterfront and home. When there were 5 a.m. closings there were always at least a few people on the street at that hour, and people on the street generally make us safer.

I'm sure the assailant had just left Flannigans, Damn those 5am closings!!!
Use this one for your stats Marc.
BTW, If that's the composite image of the perp given to the Grape from the Miami Police dept. then it would be irresponsible of Grape not to show it.
Grape, Your followers know that your aim is true so just ignore all the negetivity, you're better than them!!!

Just heard that the guy sells rocks and left town two days ago. Why don't the cops clean up the Bahamian Village, I thought they had a sting a few weeks back. I also drove through there around 10 a.m. and saw what I thought might be a drug deal going down.

HOW ignorant drug deals go down in the worst and best areas of the world, keep blaming on certain areas or types of people, that is so American of you!!

Continuing on Michelle’s point, I still haven’t figured out why people insist that the 3am closing will save the grove, when in fact it’s killed the Grove’s commerce. Now admittedly I do not live in the Grove. I simply run a business in this community. Not a store front like the fine people I have had the good fortune to meet, but something in the financial sector. None the less, when I’ve had spirited conversations about bringing back 5am closings I’m often attacked for not living here so I shouldn’t have an opinion. Interestingly enough the folks making that statement do not have business’ in downtown Grove. Ironically the business owner’s, particularly the restaurants, can’t wait to see 5am back. WV

At the risk of getting slammed, do check it out it -- I heard the woman was coming from Flanigan's - nothing good happens on the street at those hours. Even running at 5:30 a.m. is not a good idea unless you are running from something.

you risked it so here it comes. it's shameful to even remotely suggest that coming from Flannigan's at 5:30 might have something to do with it. what about the rape victims who are assulted at 9am or 9pm. Maybe your buddy sucksoff should keep everyone at home. Maybe if she were wearing his spandex it would have been okay. I wonder if you were ever out at 5am. maybe you did a long time ago when high button shoes were in style. When did the Grove become a retirement community. i know, when the man in tights took over. Oh, and maybe people run at 5:30 am in order to be early at their business.

... and to see the sunrise when the sun comes up early. There's nothing more beautiful than running the Coconut Grove waterfront at sunrise. I highly recommend it!
