It's a thrilling time to be in the Grove

race4
I have to say, that we are all thrilled with the events of the past weekend. The Pajama Pub Crawl and the Great Grove Bed Race all went off without a hitch. The Grove is on its way back.

race3
Someone told me that it all seemed so perfect and seamless from the outside, he said he imagined that it must have been chaos on the inside. It wasn't. Both events went smoothly and just as planned.

race1
The Bed Race of course was the main attraction and even the weather cooperated. The weather reports said rain, lots of it, and that may have kept many away, but the crowd that did show up was manageable and fun. They seemed to all enjoy themselves.

race5
For some reason, many in our community doubted that it would be a success, now many want to piggyback their events and tie-in their events with the Bed Race. Those who were speaking us and them, are now saying "we." I find that very interesting. Could the Merchants Group and Bed Race be the thing that finally pulls all of the Grove together.

race7
The Bed Race Committee knew it would all happen as planned, maybe not so smoothly, but we knew it would happen. What would be the point of meeting and planning week after week for months on end if a successful event wasn't the goal? A goal was set and the goal was surpassed.

race2
The committee met Wednesdays each week, blending in with the Fourth of July committee at times and through it all, both events -- Fourth of July and the Great Grove Bed Race showed people what the Grove is all about. We need more of this. We are all walking around now, not with big heads, but with big, proud smiles on our faces. :)

There is an element at work here that I am sure, if it were missing you would not see so many happy smiling faces and positive attitudes throughout the Village of Coconut Grove, Florida. I've taken the time to read the first Grapevine blog up to about March 2009 because I wanted to see something, some element, some common denominator----I wanted to know something for sure, and I found it. So I put it to a test just to make absolutely sure, and sure enough, there it was; an absolute love of community and the desire to make this Village a community where harmony was the only objective. The Village of Coconut Grove is not coming back or returning to some hey day gone by years, it is being transformed here, now and today by the Grape into something better. In fact, it has transformed me, ME into something better.

The last few years have been a building time in the Grove. I think we had this down period where some people felt detached and disenfranchised. Others had not joined the community but just lived here. Events like this do so much to pull us together, and the more the better. Great job, Bed Race Committee, and BID, and Chamber, and Merchant's Group, and King Mango Strut, and Grapevine, and all the other elements that have been working together to make things happen in the Grove. Thank you!

The Chamber is committed as always to support this event for next year.. but we need to start planning now for next year..

The bed race was awesome and brought tons of business to the grove. As a business on Commodore Plaza we seem to be in the hot spot of events. We had more sales and walk in traffic then any other day we have been in business. Thanks for all the hard work as it has effected all of our local businesses. Thanks!!!! We will definetly be having a cool bed for next year

Good times!! It was great to see everyone out Saturday night and all day sunday for the race and the crawl.

Very well put together. The event was bigger and better than I saw coming. So glad the weather cooperated, although, I think some of the teams really were praying for rain after their first run.

Hots boys sweat,
With beds to push.
People yell,
I love your tush!"
Spirits high,
Cold drinks imbibed,
Let's hear it for this Grovey tribe.

Thanks for brining the Bed race back Tom, I hope that it never goes away again. This is the type of thing that makes our village unique and our community a community of friends.

Maybe next year I will have a chance to participate!
