He needs to budge for the budget

21-1
Mayor Manny Diaz will not budge on rescheduling the date of his Miami 21 meeting in August. He has taken to Facebooking and Twittering about Miami 21.

The City Commission is having a budget workshop the same, day, which seems more important than handing over the city to the developers, but this is what the Mayor wants. He feels the boondoggle Miami 21 is more important than the $118 million in the hole he is leaving as his legacy.

the Chairman can change the meeting if he'd like. He has the power to do it.

Just for context... could someone please explain why Maimi 21 is a "boondoggle"? What are its pros and cons? Why should I be for or against it?

If Chairman Sanchez really cares only about the budget he should change the meeting. Make the important decision. "Urging" is not enough.

Chairman Joe Sanchez canceled the August 6th Budget Workshop. Why bother discussing the $118 mil budget deficit when you can throw more money at consultants who profit from Miami 21?

Joe Sanchez canceled the August 6th Budget Workshop?

is this true? if so, it shows how Joe bows to Manny's desire.

what is the Mayor calls a meeting, but there is not a quorum of commissioners?

I am not sure if he canceled the August meeting. I doubt it, if anything its rescheduled.
However he should challenge the Mayor, he is the only one in the Commission that can deny the meeting.

The Miami Commissioners should concentrate on solving the monumental budget crisis in the next several weeks.

The City budget is more important than Miami 21 at this time! Please write to the Commissioners: agonzalez@ci.miami.fl.us
tregalado@ci.miami.fl.us
jsanchez@ci.miami.fl.us
msarnoff@ci.miami.fl.us
mspence@ci.miami.fl.us

And please attend on August 6th, 2:00 PM, to get them to do justice to the budget and postpone analyzing the complex, controversial Miami 21 until further notice ... best after the elections.

If there is no quorum then no vote.

Miami 21 is just another expense Miami cannot afford. Sort of like a family of four living on a $34,000 income. They might want a $200,000 trip to France but they do not need it and they cannot afford it.

Where is the substance against Miami 21? The money has already been spent- its a waste of over 5million not to finish it! That's a waste!

Typical Diaz/Sanchez moving forward ideology. Miami 21 should be FIXED with input since this will be the code we will have from here on out. Ten of thousands of dollars of a difference in YOUR home. Millions around the city. If we would have stalled the Marlins Stadium we would have lost a few hundred thousand dollars. A lot of money...however the stadium cost 2.6 billion dollars. A lot more money.

Sometimes in poker it is better to fold then to go all in.

Manny Diaz will cost the taxpayers over $3 bil on the Marlins scam. That is just the interest on the bonds to build the stadium.

Diaz is always wrong. Why blindly follow him into bankruptcy?
