Grove marches on as techie haven
250 techies were expected, over 300 showed up, at Refresh Miami held at the DoubleTree Hotel last night. Above are Liliana Dones, from the Chamber; Brian Breslin, founder of Refresh Miami; Angelique Swann of the DoubleTree and Emanuel Pozo, Grovite who attended.
These cutting edge media savvy people will now be meeting there monthly, on the last Wednesday of the month. This coup was initiated between Liliana and Angelique, who graciously donated the space at the DoubleTree.
Last night, Comcast Cable introduced new cable tv technology, Murry Izenwasser presented "140 characters or less" about Twitter and David DiCillo, an iPhone application developer, presented his app to the group.

I thought this meeting would all be over my head, instead It opened my brain and made me aware how the new technology will and is impacting us. Example given, was did you know when the fax machine was invented, then actually utilized. The other was who produced the first album by one group prior to it always being a compilation of works by various artists. The answer well you should have been there.
I wonder if Comcast's new technology is why my cable box freezes a lot lately? Oh, and the DVR got wiped too... Im sad because I had a ton of great live music shows that I didnt have the chance to burn to DVD yet. :(
This event sounds interesting. I thought it would be too techie for me but from what Anamaria says I guess it isnt. I'll have to check out the next one.
@blind mind
comcast's new technology hasn't been rolled out yet. its being fast tracked for miami-dade county because they now consider us a key market. its something called docsis3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS
not sure what makes it work, but supposedly it means 5-10x faster downloads on your cable internet.
@annamaria thanks for taking pictures and supporting us. send me info about the mac user group.
Great event, even for us non-techies.
Actually this "coup" is between Angelique and Brian, but I, for one, am glad the event is in the Grove-- being part of the Let's make Grove Tech Central, which Brian Breslin and Alex Carvhalo started and Grape and I got behind it... great energy in the room, great energy for the Grove!
Brian - thanks for the info. Now I wont feel as bad when I choke slam my cable box thru a table.
