South Beach has a shuttle bus

bus
Looks like my idea about the shuttle bus/trolley was a good idea. South Beach is using it. They have a 25 cents shuttle. But are they picking up our visitors and bringing them to South Beach, or vice versa -- bringing South Beach visitors to the Grove for the day?

Some rude guy at something called MiamiBeach411 is upset over the article I wrote, saying I want to steal South Beach's tourists, but apparently South Beach liked the idea enough to steal it for themselves.

Do you know more about this shuttle? I'd love to be able to hop a bus to the beach w/o having to transfer three times. Is it a county bus? Does it run regular hours?

sobe has had this thing for years. it's the best keppt secret in sobe. it's the only way to get around if you want to beat the parking mess.

the only flaw is the drivers who will not stop for you unless you vigorously flag them down. they will simply race around their route all day unless someone physically asks them to stop.

i cant believ they havent jacked the fare on this to $1 or more.
Shhhhhhsssshhhh.

South Beach didn't steal the idea, the shuttle has been in operation for years now. It dosen't leave South Beach but runs on a loop from the area of the convention center to south point park, it's used more by locals that tourists.
This type of shuttle probably wouln't work in the grove, it works in that area of south beach because of the high poulation density

This photo was taken in Coconut Grove on Grand Ave. It does leave the Beach.

c'mon anony 2:34, how did you not see Rocket's in the background?

We should gather some schedule info on this - times, days etc. And also find out who's funding it (just for curiousity's sake). Maybe we can expand on this idea in some type of partnership.

Stealing tourists from South Beach?

Who owns the tourists?

What, they won't share?

Seems to me that giving people the freedom to circulate benefits everyone. I might get on a shuttle to South Beach to avoid driving and parking there, and I have friends who live there who would do the same.

Can you just imagine the cost? Such a vehicle cost, say $100-thousand min, insurance, driver, gas, oil , maintenance----stealing tourist, etc, who foots such a bill for nothing?

Looks like it really doesn't leave South Beach: http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/images/pdfs/routes/123.pdf

Either the route changed, or this guy was just passing through. Would've loved to take advantage though!

for those who don't frequent public transportation- this bus was either on the way to the garage or was running the normal 249 route and one of the normal buses was not in service.

My idea to actually go to another city and pick up the tourists and bring them back.

This is at least 4 years old. When I lived on West Avenue then, it was $0.25 and ran in a square, with Washington and West Avenue being the East and West roads, 17th and I believe 5th Streets being the North and South ends.

Why should the Grove mentality be to have to go out and steal tourist? It appears to me that if one only considers the extreme amount of activity the Grape constantly reports is taking place in our Grove community one has to wonder what additional forces are at play as we see several business closing weekly. The Grove provides a lot of activity for individuals and family alike as there is generally speaking a lot to do in the Grove. In fact we have three beautiful parks on the Biscayne Bay, so why should we think we need to steal tourist?

There is no bus that shuttles locals/tourists from SoBe to the Grove, although I ask my local politicians about it at each opportunity. The bus here is the South Beach Local and it opens up the whole of SoBe to anyone who just wants to park the car once.

i cant imagine what that bus was doing in the grove. it does not go there on any kind of a route, as far as i know, though i wish it did.

it does a loop around sobe from south point to the publix at the end of west ave.

you can take a miami dade bus from south beach to the grove if you know what youre doing. but i dont recommend it unless you have at least an hour to kill each way.
