It's a little massacre of quaintness

A few of us brought up the gas street lights (we know they aren't real gas) that are being replaced in the Grove at the Merchants Meeting today. We were quickly told to shut up and talk to the BID about it.

Rudeness, aside, I would like to get a report to see how much money we have actually spent on lighting repairs. I know the whole point is to bring in FPL to take on all the expenses, being told that it costs $8000.00 per light to replace them if someone hits them with a car and knocks them down, makes total sense to me. But I want to know how often this happens? Is it once every three years or maybe just once in the whole history of the gas lights or maybe once a week?

I know this happened recently and a jerk with roid rage coming from the gym did this. He should be responsible for the replacement costs. Not the City.

I'll report what I find. Many of us are not happy with the change from quaint to ugly in the name of saving a few bucks. We pay taxes here and businesses pay into the BID to support these lights. Taxpayers and BID members would like a vote on this massacre of quaintness.

FPL definitely blows, but it's not like the lights they replace them with are so ugly or out of place. I say pick your battles, and I'd rather focus my complaints towards those high-voltage power lines they are planning.

8 grand could have bought a lot of bike racks. Sure would look nicer than bikers being forced to use a no parking sign like in this picture.

what ever happened to the Cocowalk bike racks anyway? All I see are new little "No Bike Chaining" signs near the fountain.
