Lights out
With the lights being replaced, guess they don't have to worry about fixing this one.
I hear it is about $8,000 to replace these lights every time someone hits one, and that is why it's a good idea to put the responsibility and cost in FPL's hands if they want it. Only I hate to see the quaint gas light style go.
One of our local cops asked me what's up with the fact that the light has been lying on the ground all weekend so far. He said that in any other city, it would have been cleaned up by now. But this one is right in the center of town in the middle of one of the biggest weekends of the year, with thousands of people passing by.

Thanks Grape for posting about the lamp on the ground.
I've been volunteering at the St. Stephen’s show this year and park (at a meter) for the day (content with park-by-phone) and have wondered why the City of Miami just lets it sit there. Frankly, it’s embarrassing that on one of the busiest weekends of the year, there is no visible desire to at least pick up the glass. As of this morning, the CFL bulb was still in the lamp (not sure if it’s still in there tonight). The CoM gets a "Fail" on this one.
BTW, isn't it blocking a few precious parking spots?
FIRST THE LIGHT IS NOT BLOCKING ANY PARKING SPOTS IT'S A COMMERCIAL LOADING ZONE. SECOND THE LIGHT WAS KNOCKED DOWN ON THURSDAY NIGHT BY ONE OF THE GYM CUSTOMERS.
Thanks for the clarification Anon @ 10:38 pm.
Still looks bad IMHO.
Thats a strong ass gym customer.

THIRD: So What??
On any reasonably well-run CITY, this light would have been picked up almost immediately, cleaned up, and replaced asap.
Especially on such an extremely CROWDED weekend, especially on that strategic, central location.
SO WHAT'S YOUR POINT?
(where's commisioner Sarnoff?? I saw another "representative of our talking politics with Monty at the Peacock Park stage... with Pocket Change.. talking and talking instead of fixing the big Lamp, or any other thing here, like the parking mess.)
As a (retired) Public Works Director in a similarly sized city, I can tell you there's no excuse for this. There's liability here and no municipal tort exemption is going to protect anyone. This should have been cleaned up and :made-safe" within hours of the incident.
Where is your Department's sense of mission and customer service? And, if you think FPL would do a better job, keep on fooling yourselves. Your Diector needs his ass handed to him by the City Manager.
Actually, if I were passing by I'd take the time to either move it or set it back in place. Yes, I know it electrical and could kill anyone who touched it, but how many people familiar with electrical devices saw this lamp post in this condition? How has it become a social norm that average citizens can't pitch in to help their local government accomplish some menial task like this? For me this is more a reflection on all citizens to walk by and not take some action to correct problems, rather than just complain.
Did the Light post get a Parking Ticket? To bad it was not towed out.
There are wires lying there! Not live, surely? In any event, this is a negligence suit waiting to happen. There are people who make a living off being injured by negligent individuals, companies, and the government.
