The Grove tourist map
Anything else need to be on the map? Special markings or phone numbers? Our committee meeting is this week. I'll bring your suggestions along.

Don't print too many. Or make it easy to edit. As often as the businesses turn over, it would need to be updated often. If I were a tourist, I wouldn't be pleased if a map led me to a locked door and paper-covered window!
Can I be part of the committee? Let's discuss it over lunch at Basil.
No anonymous people on the committee. Sorry.
Great Idea!
Hey, how about using a seagrape leaf?
I know it's not technically in Coconut Grove but be sure to include Shell Lumber.
The Barnacle, Dog parks, churches, children's playgrounds (Blanche Park, Kennedy Park, etc.), public tennis courts, places to rent boats (US Sailing Center is one for Lasers, I believe), public computer access (Kirk Munroe Park, Virrick Park, don't know if others), the VitaCourse at Kennedy Park, scenic biking and running routes, if it goes outside the commercial disrict, La Ermita de la Caridad, Alice Wainwright Park, Vizcaya.
PARKING!!! Include all lots in the area so people will see that there are many options if they suck it up and walk a block or two!
The way to find out what is important to TOURISTS, is for the C of C or BID or the Merchants Assoc. to sponsor a Fam Tour, this is to educate the people who give out information and maps to tourist on a full itinerary
Not businesses unless they serve the tourist trade. That is our business, in the case of Miami it is right now the healthiest in the country as this writing. (and it is down everywhere including here) With the International Travel Industry Convention coming to Miami in May (Pow Wow) it is imperative that we all understand this.
Hey Grape why not do a daily "Where is this?"
from here on till they arrive. Then every grovite will be able to be of assistance.
I'm sorry, but why again would we not want to put businesses on the map? And who gets to decide what's related to tourism.
Put in anything of interest and any business that wants in. I don't want to predict what a tourist might be want to do or see, but we have plenty to offer.
Make sure to highlight our historic roundabouts. They're a big draw. (had to slide one in there)
I am a little confused. Why does this sound like a great new idea when there have been two maps printed annually in the Grove for over 15 years. These two individuals
Cindy Bettner and Marshal Steingold have published Tourism maps for years. Why not assist these loyal Grovites with grants to expand distribution and help retailers advertise. By starting a whole new map not only is it extremely expensive and a waste of money but now will compete with these two other publications who I am sure have already lost ad revenue due to the recession.
I have to agree with Heather Bettner, although I see that she has the same last name as Cindy, ummm....
I also agree with Heather. A little historical Grove tidbit here. There was once upon a time a very nice map of Coconut Grove done by two Grove artists.
Ken Hughs and Ursula Hendendahl Hughs. It encompassed all that was the Grove. It even had the anchorage, started at Monty's and included the Boys Club. It then got knocked off by someone else and the Hughs took them to task via court and won. Hughs put in a fake street to protect their intellectual property rights. Nothing really has changed in the Grove. Does anyone still have this original map?
Yes, I have one. It is poster size and absolutley beautiful. I keep it rolled up and it is really a work of art. Yes Cindy is my sister and I do support her, however that is not why I wrote that comment.
When the Grove receives money it needs to be efficient with it and put it to where the best use is. That is why I think the should support the two existing publication (pocket size by the way) exactly what they want. Save money and move on to something else where their efforts could be of better use.
