The situation is being looked into now

My story on the kid gangs below got the ear of the Miami Herald. They are going to investigate this. I was just contacted by them.

The word "gangs" came from the police, not from me. They used that word when describing this situation of the mail being stolen -- a federal offense. So if you see the Herald snooping around, give them the story if you know it.

I know of at least a dozen people who have told me about the situation over the past few weeks, all from different areas of the Grove, all with the same or similar story.

Someone told me last week about them kicking and trying to break into Kinkos, I thought she was exaggerating until I saw it myself on Saturday. The day they approached us at George's, I knew who they were right away, they fit the description that I had been hearing for weeks. Everyone has the same description of the punks.

They are getting more violent and have older guys watching out for them. They have protection. Young kids like this aren't charged as adults when caught, so the older guys use them to commit the violence.

Try e-mailing our so-called "representatives" about this important Grove issue, or any others.

Mr. Sarnoff. Hello?? Yes, we're paying our hefty taxes here in the Grove, Mr. Commissioner, enjoy using them elsewhere. Send a real Police Officer sometime to stroll by our streets on a cool Sunday afternoon, if you don't mind.

Thanks!

absolutely agree with anon@6:42. where are the parents? Also, anon @2:38 is right on the mark. this country has lost it's way. The parents (or grandparent, or aunt, or uncle, or cousin) if no parent is around) of these children should have to pay in some way for the illegal activities of their kids. Then maybe they will have an incentive to work to prevent their kids from turning to a life of drugs and crime. Maybe that would also result in people bringing into the world only the number of kids they can raise to be responsible, contributing adults.

this is shocking. i can't believe they threw rocks at you. i am really shocked that this is going on. what do these kids want from kinko's also. or better yet what do the adults behind these kids want. is it fear for fear's sake, or is there some sort of agenda. i lived in the grove for many years in the 90's and am now in sarasota. i don't see any kind of violence here except for some drunken vandelism. this should stop and the police should start getting these kids help.

There are 3 elementary schools that serve the Grove. Take the pictures to the schools, They'll know who the kids are. The Grove is really small that way.

I haven't witnessed violence, but I've seen very agressive "fund raisers" as far as the Publix on Brickell and at the movies at Sunset Place, meeting people at their cars or at the tops of escalators with pitches for donations.

If those were real basketball teams (or whatever they are claiming), I'd hope their coaches would know to have them present themselves a bit more professionally. If they weren't, then this is a scheme that reaches much further than the Grove...

Unfortunately, as with all problems in this country, they can be laid at the foot of George W Bush. So much for "compassionate conservativism" Had Al Gore or John Kerry won the 2000 or 2004 election, this country would be flowing with milk and honey.

The good news is that President Obama is now here to clean up that nasty Texas guy's mess. We now have an elected leader (not a selected dim bulb) in the White House whose skin pigment resembles that of these gang members. This issue you journal about here in the Grove will not be a problem in the next 4 to 8 years.

This I am confident.

They are at the Shell gas station on US-1 just about every single day. They will walk up to your car window before you even have a chance to get out.

Yes, it's all Bush's fault that people do stupid stuff. Get with the program, Tony!

Oh, Messiah, how much longer must we live in George Bush's America?

If someone threw a rock at you why didn't you take action? If these kids appear to have a schedule, why not wait, grab hold of, call the police and file a report? Perhaps hire a street wise person and have them about the Grove with a cell phone and hold a few of these kids, confront the bigger ones and do unto them what they are doing to us?

Anon @ 8:23 - As much as I hate former prez Bush, the comment that the world would be so much better if Gore or Kerry had been elected is completely absurd and delusional.

We can all agree that the country is in a really crappy position and that the last President really made some crappy decisions. But neither of those have any relevance to little punkass kids causing havoc in the Grove. Gee, 4 to 8 years and the problem in the Grove will be gone? Youre really going out on a limb there, pal.

The real problem might be a naturally occuring worldly. I'm not religious at all, but Jesus turned over the money tables or so it was written. A report filed yesterday stated the world is doing about $50-trillion in business yet the market is paying commissions to all those finincial people to the tune of $950-trillion, which to a degree explains the housing bubble. I read the figure that 5,000,000 People in the various financial markets of England, the U.S. and a few counteies in Europe have been laid off. These are not stupid people and they probably won't just lie down to collect unemployment----these kids are not even close to the tip of the iceberg-----get ready and be prepared folks. We have to make the Grove work for us and we must protect our interest and the Grapevine will be in the vangard where we can exchange information almost immediately to be made aware of our community and what's going on.

So, these kids are just a skirmish line for a coming invasion of hordes of unemployed investment bankers?

January 27, 2009 3:41 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes swlip, something like that. Historically a lot of books were written titled "The Rise and Fall of Civilizations", namely by author Arnold Toynbee. Also in a book called "War and Civilization" it appears when a lot of people become unemployeed they become a threat to the state, which is why marriage was invented to cool the raging males masses. During the Iran Iraqi war in the in 1980 or so when the Iran government attacked in force they placed about 10,000 youthful males in front of the tanks and experience armies to step on the mines and fired 50"s from each side. Very few came back each "DAY" during these battles. Tell us your opinion on why these kids are appearing throughout the Western world from Greece to Australia? If those hordes of investment bankers created this mess when times were good, what do you think their attitudes will be after becoming unemployed when they are pissed off?

Just a hint, when you call the Police, How you phrase your complaint to the 911 operator could get them to come a little quicker, Instead of saying someone threw a rock at you say- Someone just tried to hit me with a rock, I'm afraid he's going to kill someone, Please come quick,
there are women and children on the street. Or, a gang of kid's is attacking someone on the street.BELIEVE ME, It makes a big difference in their responce time!!
I live in Brooklyn and my neighbor's think i got some connection's by how quickly I get the cop's to show up. {And just in case the Police are still mad about all the Parking Ticket article's, Don't tell'em your name is Grape or Grapevine!!
LOL!} I wish i was there to help, I'd straighten those young'uns
out!! good Luck. Don't let up. it will only get worse if you do.

I hope you live in the Grove and that some day we bump into each other and smile when we realize it's us-----kick butt!

Once at Crook & Crook in Miami, Florida, about 1979,in a marine hardware store a uniformed police officer came and advised us to carry weapons because their response time would be about 7 minutes. We knew this was politically motivated to obtain votes. I've called the police several times and they responded in about 120 seconds depending on what they were doing, which may or may not have been important regarding my perspective. Most police are officers who have a desire to help their fellow citizens. There are no absolute guarantees and you could slip in your tub tomorrow and be buried by Friday. Surround youself with loved ones or get a dog and hope for the best.

Wow, there certainly a lot of whacko posts on this topic of little hoodlums causing havoc on the streets of the Grove. Im cracking up over here. These are my favorites so far:

- The Grove would be safe from kids throwing rocks and harassing people for money if Gore or Kerry were elected.

- Now that Obama is in office, there is at least 1 person who is quite confident that these rock-throwing kids will learn their lesson in the next 4 to 8 years and change their ways. You know, because they share the same skin pigmentation.

- According to Anon @ 4:20, these kids are really not the problem. They are just paving the way for an invasion of unemployed investment bankers.

- Somehow this relates to the Iran Iraqi war in the 80s and that too was caused by hordes of investment bankers who could really make things worse because theyre pissed off now.

- Swlip clearly mocks all of this yet it goes undetected and he is recruited to help save the "normal folks".

- Tips for calling 911 are shared from a guy who lives in Brooklyn.

- You should carry a gun if you are going to call the police because they might not get there for 7 minutes, though several times they have responded in 120 seconds and not a second more.

Is this really happening right now?
