Senor Frogs finally closes

Looks like Senor Frogs finally closed down.

I was told they were closing six months ago, but I guess the economy finally got them.

Is Basil's still open? We wanted to go for dinner last night but the shutters were already closed by 6:30 pm.

Basil is open for lunch only. Until more people are willing to give them business for dinner, they won't be open.

That's too bad about Senor Frogs closing. I have alot of great memories in that place, especially the old one. It's always a little sad to see these places close down. It's like a little piece of us goes with them. Remember Tu Tu Tango? I still get a tear in my eyes when I think of them. But then again, I haven't been to Senor Frogs in months either. I guess they will live in our memories. Maybe we should start a Grove Graveyard? Think of all the great names that would be there (Taurus,Tigertail Lounge, Village Inn, etc.)

Might the fact that the food sucked and was overpriced have had anything to do with it?

@swlip : I agree - many of the places that are closing just charged too much (for regular food) to be an everyday option to those of us who live here.

It reminds me of how landlords wont negotiate a few bucks off their asking rent, and end up losing the money they refused to negotiate in just a one month of sitting on the market.

Sad, but I'm looking forward to the new Peacock Cafe which is promising to be a more local place -- that's what these merchants need to do - market themselves, $ wise, to the locals instead of the tourists.

Sammy C's is the place right now. Good food, reasonable drinks, great atmosphere, Code 33, a great place for locals.

Senor Frogs was long overdue for a closing. Like swlip said, overpriced and the food was not good.

Ive eaten at Basils a few times and actually liked it. Its too bad they suffer from a not-so-great location on the outskirts of Center Grove. Cant say Ive tried Sammy C's though and I dont see that happening any time soon. Same reason - too far off the beaten path. If either of these places gave me a good reason to go more often, Id consider.

Funny thing about the Frog is that they really did this to themselves. They had some chances, and had hands extended to them to help, but pride is a dangerous thing... as is greed.

Have no fear tho, the grove will survive, and even thrive. It's like darwinism, you end up with the best and most adaptive. Look at the new places that have done so well in such a short time.

Too bad. I remember the old Senor Frog's as being great fun. The new location never clicked for me. Too noisy, too crowded, not enough of an incentive, but it's a shame because that stretch is going to look desolate now
