The Frog is croaking
As for that empty lot next door, no one is talking, they tell me it's a big "political mess" involving the city, whatever that means.
Anyway, that's the scoop today, you can tell everyone you "heard it through the Grapevine."

From what I heard, the mess next door is due to the fact that Fulvio, proprietor of the Tuscany trattoria that used to be in that building, illegally added some structures to the back. This wasn't discovered until after the new tenants - who transformed it into 3484 Main Hwy - were told by code enforcement.
Bringing the building into line with the code would have been prohibitively expensive. Apparently, the building owner determined that the only economical option was to tear the whole thing down.
So now we have an ugly, empty lot where there was, for a little while, a really decent music club/bar/restaurant that was owned by some enthusiastic young guys who were determined to make it a happening spot. About the only person who can possibly be happy about this is the cranky lady at the Cloisters who always complained about the music being too loud.
Wouldn't be entirely surprised as I do believe the one on the beach has already shut its doors.
Senor Froggies gone??? Where else am I going to get mediocre Mexican food. Cancun; Puerto Vallarta or Cabo?
Maybe they can relocate back to the old Starbucks location.
swlip,
The City of Miami noise ordinance prohibits noise than can be heard more than 100 feet from the source. The nearest residence in The Cloisters is more than 400 feet from the former 3484. The "cranky lady" was totally within her rights to complain. It's called the law. You should look it up.
Good Riddance to the Frog. Terrible food. Tourist ripoff spot if you ask me. Glad to see them go. Decent mexican food would be great, but doesn't seem likely in Miami.
from what i understand the Frog building is owned by Alex Rodriguez the baseball player
I'm sad to see it go even though I haven't eaten there for years.
I personally have very fond memories Senor Frog's when it was in the old Starbuck's location. My girlfriend and I would go there for "happy hour" many times a week to do our homework, do a few tequila shots, eat our after school chips and salsa, and watch the passersby out of the big picture window. I loved that place back then when Xavier and Jose were the owners. Ah the good old days...
Yeah, we were in high school. Xavier was very good at math!
My husband and I got our "start" there after a few Margaritas, but at the Grand ave. location. Two kids later and we still like Margaritas. Too bad its going. Now, what was that scandal with the lawyer and the wife of the convicted city commissioner? Anybody remember that story? Are they still together?
Someone did a skit in the Strut many years ago about that couple - last name Hernandez. I think the wife and her attorney are still together - living happily ever after - who knows?

Try Rosa Mexicano in Mary Brickell Village.
just-the-facts:
Believe it or not, I know what the law is. But at the same time, anybody moving into The Cloisters had to be on notice that live music is a part of life in the Center Grove, especially along that strip of Main Hwy.
I played at that club on a regular basis, and the proprietors were investing a lot into trying to bring a regular live music scene back to the Grove. Too bad it didn't work out.
I enjoyed 3484 while it was there. I think their downfall was when they dumbed down the food menu. I thought the original menu was great. I also thought the manager there was a meathead. There werent many people on the staff who respected him or his decisions.
Their downfall was the code violations that Fulvio left behind. They would have had to shut down for the better part of a year, and spend close of a million dollars, to bring it into compliance.
Swilp Rosa Mexicano in Mary Brickell Village is disgusting I tried it and I hated it. It's like a bad decor job in there also because everything is pink and purple. Try Pablamo in South Miami across from Sunset mall, it's really yummy!
I think you mean Poblano...
