Things are very strange around here
I was amazed to see that everyone there, including all the officers, read the Grapevine very thoroughly, they were able to go into details about comments left by readers, as well as my posts.
I found out that this officer giving tickets is named Ivan, he is the top narcotics officer in the Grove and has done phenomenal work, according to the officers at the NET office.
But my question is this: Why is Ivan giving parking tickets then? Shouldn't he be doing his narcotics work? Isn't that what the Parking Authority and the meter maids are for? I don't get it, maybe I never will.
Now I love the officers in the Grove, they are part of the community. They are the nicest guys you would want to meet. It is their superiors who are giving them orders to write thousands of tickets or harass the restaurants. Guess they just need money at this time of year.
Many locals feel that one local politician is behind most of it.
Speaking of Code Enforcement, I sat behind a Code Enforcement officer today while he chatted in the middle of traffic while chatting with some guy walking his dog. He literally stopped his car at the intersection of Mary and S. Bayshore and chatted on and on with total disregard for the others behind him.
Then I saw a police officer parked at a handicapped parking spot. He was inside a business chatting it up. It wasn't official business. It was a case of do what I say, not what I do.
I'm just sayin' . . . .

Ivan's occupation is an officer of the law. Whether its writing tickets or busting druggies, its all part of the job description. If you sell drugs or illegally park, Ivan will be there to show you the consequences for doing so. Its really simple to understand.
You know, Grape, sometimes people arent going to act the way that YOU want them to. Thats why they are individuals. Thats also why you run a blog and not a police department. Your post below about "corporate" businesses not putting signs in their windows is out of line too. They dont do it because they have a brand and do not want to be seen as a sponsor or favoring one certain group. What if they put your sign up and then 15 other good causes asked them to do the same thing? They'd have to favor one or have a window full of signs (which then you would likely dedicate a post to, complaining about all of the signs).
When you go off on these rants about people not acting the way that you deem they should be, it really sounds like you think you are better than them or something. Very elitist in tone. I know, or at least Im 99% positive, that you dont intend this because you seem like a nice enough guy. In the majority of cases that you complain about, youre dead wrong about 80-90% of the time. Sure, the code people barging in on restaurants about heaters and furniture probably couldve been handled better behind closed doors. But things like getting tickets for parking in a no parking zone are really just common sense. Just because people had previously gotten away with it doesnt mean the law officers are the bad guys when they start busting people for it.
Remember what Grape said back on October 17th... He said,
"The other day I stopped on the corner of Mary Street and Florida Avenue to ask someone something and this rude jerk behind me sat on his horn until I moved."
Grape could not believe that he was in any way at fault when a 'rude driver' behind him honked his horn for stopping in the street.
I guess if you are Code Enforcement and you stop in the street and chat then it is wrong.
Some posts are so hypocritical that I often wonder if Grape actually remembers what he has written in the past.
So I was wrong, but code enforcement was right?
And I moved when someone honked the horn at me. Code Enforcement ignored everyone beeping him. (I didn't beep, I am not a beeper).
You're not "just sayin'", you're pointing out the blatent hypocrocy of the department and their self serving attitudes.
I think the police should take note of who pays their salaries and how they're working for!
Quite often, the best way for narcotics officers to get a lot of there information is to be out on the street.
A good officer is not just writing the ticket but looking at the cars, at the people driving them and driving by and observing more than you think.
So anonymous what you are saying is that since you are one of the contributors to the police salaries they should overlook any infraction or breakage of the law that you might commit ??
On the other hand why is it so difficult to understand that all this orders about writing tickets and enforcing noise ordinances comes from ABOVE? Simply put the upper rank is trying to please some of the grove residents while upsetting others. That is the name of the game. You win some and you loose some.
