They can't write tickets fast enough

cop1
It's bad enough that the parking authority meter maids are out constantly write up folks, but now, for some reason, the police feel the need to ticket everybody in site. Aren't there real crimes that the police can be dealing with?

The interesting part is that this one particular cop has one whole lane of traffic blocked. He just stopped his car in the middle of the street, as if it was such an emergency to ticket the cars. He had a long line of cars behind him trying to get by. Does he know there is a grace period?

The other day there were two cops parked at "no parking" zones. And all the while, six, seven, even eight cabs take up great parking spots on Virginia Street, never putting any money in the meters and the cops allow this to happen. The cabs tie up parking spots day and night and the City doesn't make any money on those metered spots. Maybe they should look into that.

Seems like these cops really have very little to do all day, and need to somehow justify their good salaries.

They take their sweet time writing stupid tickets, or just sitting in corners by the shade as in Tiger Tail just waiting there for hours for someone to disrespect a stop sign.

Or when the slightest disturbance occurs, say a biker falls and has a slight boo-boo, the come in swarming by the Dozen, as if someone had shaken a bee hive, or if some serious crime had occured. Then they just sit around, while 1 cop, slooowwly does his work.

I'd hazard a guess it's not at all the cop's fault. The city is probably hurting for money. Cities everywhere do this when they need cash, fast.

Patrick well at least they could enforce laws that actually envolve safety. They could make a killing on US1 nailing people running lights and it would make us all safer.

This particular officer needs a haircut and to lose about 35 pounds. He looks sloppy in his uniform.

I don't know of any city that uses police officers to do parking enforcement. That's a poor use of resources. Parking enforcement doesn't require P.O.S.T., weapons qualification, or the whole nine yards of police training.

What about having red light cameras? Aventura is doing this successfully as are many other communities around the country. It not only generates revenue for cash-strapped communites, but also cuts down on flagrant and abusive red light runners and protects the public.

Maybe ther are no 'real' crimes to be dealing with. You should be thankful that you live in such a safe area.

And, other than places where those signs are confusing, what's wrong with ticketing people who are breaking the law? Granted, I think the fines for these type of violations are outrageous, but if you're not happy with the law, petition to have it changed.
Don't just blame the enforcers.

This is the same policeman we saw Saturday morning ticketing a car in a legally marked parking place at the corner of Virginia and Grand. Maybe he's the one placing the temporay no parking posts that you can hardly see on the sidewalk, then waiting for the unsuspecting "criminal"!

Nice pictures.

I think you should build a collection of these photos of cops blocking traffic as they write parking tickets and send it all the city officials because "obstructing traffic" is considered a more serious infraction than illegal parking.

Just don't get yourself arrested because Miami PD is a little touchy about photographs.

I sat in front of him taking pictures for a good 5 minutes, someone was with me, we got out of the car and took a bunch of photos and he never looked up from his ticket booth.

You could have robbed every store in sight, he never would have looked up.

I agree with being upfront about taking photos of cops because there is nothing illegal about it.

Too many people get intimidated so they either stand too far away where you can't see anything or they just don't take the photo at all.

Here you not only clearly got the cop, you got the squad car planted in the middle of the street as he is writing tickets, not to mention the license plate and car number.

That's what community reporting is all about. Good job!

We have had a pretty serious rash of break ins in the North Grove over the last month or so. I sure feel much better now that I know the cops are keeping busy giving parking tickets and not patrolling our neighborhood where a very serious problem seems to exist.

You are right about the cabs. I walk down Virginia at least 4 times a day and have noticed exactly what you are talking about and have wondered the same thing. What won't they do something about this. Oh yeah, they're too busy chasing down noise complaints from people who should be "living" on an island while the rest of us are living our lives in a Coconut Grove like it used to be.

People please remember when you get hurt or robbed the units that work the grove bust there ass to get to you too help You.they are the ones that come when you are scared and you need help.just for your info south miami and coral gables cops are ten times worse about writing those so called meaningless tickets. Please just think about the time they spend away from their families to protect you from the criminals. Instead of talking crap on a web site why dont you just tell a cop (hey how are you ) or just a good mornig and a smile !!
