Just another day in Paradise

First Code Enforcement, then the parking authority, now Homeland Security is getting in the act.

Today at the Sonesta on McFarlane Road, a suspicious package, the size of a laptop, was found next to a column in the underground parking garage.

A bomb alert was issued and the City bomb squad quarantined the garage and sent in a bomb sniffing robot, which then destroyed the package with its own explosive charge to neutralize it.

According to a village cop on site, it was not a bomb, but a package someone probably left by mistake while unloading their car.

About an hour later, around 2:30 pm, the all clear was given. Guess someone isn't getting their Christmas gift this year.

I was to have lunch at the Sonesta Hotel and the Bomb Squad police officer told me I cannot get into the building because of a suspicious case in the garage as you said in your news item. I asked where are all the hotel guests. The officer told me they are still in the hotel, because the management had to make the decision to empty the building of all residents, hotel guests & employees. I noticed alot of employees outside but just a handful of hotel guests and residents. It is odd that a serious life and death decision is made by a hotel manager or Hotel management. In Post 911 we really should take life more seriously and give everyone the choice to stay or leave.
