Is the King Mango Strut in trouble?
Say what? Isn't that the whole modus operandi of the Strut -- being unorganized?
Come Strut day, it always works out perfectly. Everyone is where they should be and it all ends up being the great Grove institution that it is.
I know for a fact that some businesses that are closed on Sunday, open up just for this one day. It brings in plenty of business from the thousands who show up for the parade. And what about those who come into town just for the parade? It is a Grove tradition that must go on.
I guess maybe it's time the Strut go commercial. I know, horrors. They don't want to be the CitiBank King Mango Strut or the Blue Cross Blue Shield King Mango Strut, but something needs to be done where they don't have to beg borrow or steal as they have done for the past many years.
The government is bailing everyone else out and our own Governor Charlie Crist had the cojones to go to the president elect to ask for millions, if not billions for the state this week, even though he campaigned for the other side, so maybe the Strut could do the same.
Or maybe they could start raising money earlier in the year and not start trying to raise money three weeks before the event each year. That might work. But then again, it wouldn't be the unorganized Mangoheads.

You got it all wrong - you have to be organized to have a disorganized parade. Nobody feels that the Mangoheads are too unorganized. A lot goes on behind the scenes to get the inner workings going. It should never go commercial - nobody wants the Roter Rooter King Mango Strut parade telling us what to do and what we can have and not have.
