Bike rack attack
We need to attack the bike rack problem in the Grove, or rather, lack of bike racks.
CocoWalk seems to have installed this small rack, I have seen racks like that in New York and even Sarasota and Key West, but there is one rack I like in Key West very much, the yellow "bike" bike rack you see above.
It could be black, like most bike racks, but this is in front of a bright yellow Key Lime store so it matches the store and is bright yellow. A few of these around the Grove might be cool. They can be color coordinated to fit their surroundings. Like bright red at the corner where Le P'tit Paris is or green at Greenstreets. Or maybe bright yellow at the end of the block where the bright yellow frame store is.
Let's welcome bikers and people who choose to go green (hopefully they'll share the road and not hog it). They are always bitching about lack of bike paths and lanes, maybe some new colorful bike racks will be a welcoming sign as a start. Just a thought.
Harry Emilio Gottlieb took the photo below on the corner of Grand and Matilda. I saw this similar sight at the same spot this morning. Now wouldn't a bike rack, any bike rack, look much better than this mess?

Sure, Bike racks like that would be cool, but in some places you need more capacity than just for a couple bikes on some pretty rack. Just some metal ones like you have at the Fresh Market, around seminole ramp or elsewhere in Miami.
But we get by without the Bike racks at Grand, etc. That's mainly cosmetics. They main problem with Bikes are Bike paths -the lack thereof- ,
This morning, again, I enjoyed the awesome job the City of Key Biscayne has been doing from the Rickembacker Causeway all the way down to Crandon park: Re-pavinf ALL lanes, including the good Bike Paths, re-painting the entire road, patching up the Causeway and secong bridge too, great work for Bikers and Cars alike.
Then, back to the pathetic City of Miami, Coconut Grove, South Bayshore Drive.. What a Radical Contrast it is! No bike paths, holes and uneven pavement all over, bad paint, (have you seen the AWESOME patching Job they did in front of Kennedy Park?!? Disgusting blogs of alphalt thrown there, good for Mountain Bikes X-terra competitions, I guess...
To avoid the traffic, I took as usual, Tiger Tail, from the science Museum down to Grand Av.., instead of the very dangerous South Bayshore Dr.
It's also a freakin' Land Mine Field, with Holes, Gravel and obstacles all over it, but with a few less cars..
Where does all the Grove tax payer money go? Into those few asphalt patches among the Holes and Cracks in front of Kennedy Park?
The City of key Biscayne sure doesn't have a bike problem anymore, and the Roads look better and better by the Day! A pleasure to Bike there, and drive too.
Thanks Mr. Sarnoff, the useless, political Christmas tree on City Hall looks great, though..
Carlos.
