Will somebody lock him up in a mental ward already?

Today in the Hearld, Waterfront Advisory Board chairman Stuart Sorg, probably the most hated man in the Grove, goes on and on about how an office building on the Grove waterfront is a good thing.

There are so many reasons why Stuart needs to be locked up somehere with a hot cup of cocoa and this is at the top of the list. Almost every member of the Waterfront Advisory Board has some sort of vested interest on the waterfront, whether it be in the Grove or the Miami River. Why are these people running the Waterfront Advisory Board? It's like having the elephant guard the peanuts. Does anyone think they are looking out for the interests of the public rather than their own selfish interests?

In the words of Stuart Sorg: "It will make the Coconut Grove waterfront the envy of the nation."

How about being the envy of Grove residents for a change Stuart, and doing what they want? His comment proves that this is about commercialism and not about what is good for the community. Who cares what the nation wants? How about doing what Grove residents want? We are the ones who have to live with it.

The whole purpose of the proposed building is to lease space to yacht brokers and possibly rent out party space on the top floor. This is a commercial enterprise that wants to take over public right of way -- property YOU OWN as a taxpaying citizen. These days it is the envy of the nation to go green, not pollute the waterfront.

Raping the waterfront is not the way to go and allowing Commissioners from other districts to vote on this is even more of a crime. When do Grove residents get to choose their own destiny without forces from miles away calling the shots?

The City Commission meets Thursday at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive). Let's take the Grove back. Show up and fight. I would suggest writing the commissioners, but that seems to be a lost cause, most are dim bulbs and have their own agendas. You can see that their minds are made up before ever entering the chamber and they just go through the motions. When election time comes around, we must see that most are replaced. And we will.

Why is the $700,000 Waterfront Plan being described by Sorg and others as a $1.5 million plan? The mis-statement of this factoid, though trivial on its face, undermines the credibility of whatever other "facts" Sorg purports to bring to the table.

Funny how we readers and commenters are often chastised about making nasty, personal remarks, and yet I open the page to see this kind of bile being flung at my next-door neighbor. Can't you just say that you disagree with him, and explain why, without going into such histrionics about how he needs to be locked up?

Capt. Sorg has been serving the Grove for nearly 40 years in various capacities. If he has said something that is beyond the pale, then please explain it to those of us who are willing to listen, as long as the discussion is reasonably civil.

I thought that The One and his followers were supposed to be ushering in a "new kind of politics." But all I see is a "new kind of nasty."

swlip,
Elighten us please as to how the Grape's over-the-top rant becomes the fault of The One.

He's probably getting a free dock space out of it and I would keep an eye on Neimeyer too.
