There is plenty of room now for a nice Fresh Market lunch

fresh4
There's all this talk about allowing the new structure to be built at Grove Harbour Marina so that there will be open space to eat your sandwiches at The Fresh Market.

There is actually space there now not being used. Apparently The Fresh Market does not want people sitting and eating sandwiches on the property or they would have set up the area next door. It's a little dark presently, but it's in the shade, it has a very nice cool breeze blowing through from the water, I guess due to the tunnel effect and maybe they should experiment with a little eating spot there before Grove Harbour builds an office building on the water.

If Grove Harbour is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, how about setting up some picnic tables now? Let people eat their Fresh Market lunch today since they have the space. The traffic may even help the angler shop that is there now. Or is it only a deal if they build the 21,600 square foot office building on the water? Then they will throw us a bone, I mean a picnic table or two?

Exactly Right, Grapevine. This is an absolute farce and an insult to anyone's intelligence. The Grove Marina couldn't care less about the Fresh Market customers or the residents and visitors of the Grove. They care about their lucrative and extremely exclusive Boater Business only.

They had to offer some bogus little "picnic area" to the Village Council just to try and get away with their aberration of a Huge Office building on the water.

BTW, this enclosed area with their ugly low roof would not attract many people at all with their Fresh Market lunch bags. It's too dark and unappealing. They sell Live Bait. Even with some nice tables and chairs.. They would have to blow off that steel roof and put Plants, Palms, some green area with the tables, chairs and open sky.

A pathway will palms all the way to the Water would be ideal for Visitors of the Fresh Market, but let's keep it real..

So if there were tables, and if people took their Fresh Market sandwiches and drinks and whatever else there to eat.....who would clean up? Might this be the fly in the ointment? Fresh Market is not interested in having to supply janitorial services?

If the office building were to be built, would the owner supply a janitor to keep the area clean?

An open air place with tables and people eating "take-out" food can generate a huge amount of trash and attract all sorts of vermin to feed off the droppings and leavings. Somebody would have to take responsibility.

The eating area is part of the plan, so I guess whomever is assigned to clean up then should be the ones to clean up now.

Is it not feasible to have people clean up after themselves? I know, I know, it's simply asking too much.

I've sat with my baby on the little tuft of grass en route to the marina (to the right in the top picture) to eat our Fresh Market lunch.

And, true enough, while doing something that's part of the city fabric everywhere else in the world, I felt like a complete and utter ass as marina-goers stared/ignored and cars sped by.

Anonymous 8:29, the one who felt like a complete and utter ass ... if the baywalk encompassed the under-building space with seating, etc., you would have felt like you belonged there. The breezeway in the blog photo is not a nice place to hang out, and it isn't on the water. The benefit of the public space under the proposed building isn't just about sandwiches from Fresh Market, it's also about a place to get in the shade by the water during a walk on the baywalk, or to use the restroom which would also be open to the public.
