50,000 cars could have parked for an hour
I do hope that a select few with their own agenda don't get involved and try to add more cement to the Grove. We have parking garages that sit empty now. The Grove is a walking village, if people have to park a few blocks away and walk, is that a bad thing?
We really don't need parking garages every other block. If the Grove businesses are suffering, I don't think that parking is the issue. I really don't think adding another parking garage is going to bring the crowds in. South Beach is mobbed with people, they are crazy about giving parking tickets out there, it's almost a cottage industry, and yet people keep going back.
Greenstreet is crowded every day of the week and there is not a parking garage anywhere near them. People do find parking in the Grove, they just don't like paying for it and they avoid the garages and parking lots to find parking on the street.
How about doing away with paying for parking altogether? Maybe only on Sundays as a start. Coral Gables does this. Many small villages and towns do away with parking fees altogether.
That $50,000 that the Miami Parking Authority wasted on the parking garage study could have paid for an awful lot of parking. If money is so tight and every dime is needed from the parking meters, why are we wasting money on things like that? That was 50,000 hours of parking right there that could have been given away.
On a whim, Comm. Sarnoff made 30 minute free parking the rule at the post office. Let's do this everywhere!

Exactly, Grape. I dont understand all the complaining about parking in the Grove. There is a ton of parking, you just may have to walk a block or two to get to where you want to go.
The only problem with parking in the Grove is all the non working meter machines. Was much easier when each space had a meter. Total waste of money, but whats new.
If they do not provide free parking at least let us residents purchase a resident pass so I can stop getting parking tickets due to machines that do not work that I paid for with my taxes.
Unfortunately there is inadequate parking in the Commodore area. There is the Playhouse parking lot and some small lots that overcharge depending on what day of the week it is. No one wants to pay a flat rate if they are only going to run an errand for 30 minutes. The Post Office could be a great little commercial area with a post office, some commercial space accommodating services we need like a bakery, shoe repair, etc. and some parking. They plan to put less than 20 spaces back on that treeless lot. That is nothing.
If you want to know about parking in the Grove then ask a tourist where to park. There is no sign pointing to any of the existing Miami Parking Authority spaces. Only locals know where the parking garages are.
This comment is a little about parking and a little about the Qdoba article.
The "tons of parking" everyone mentions are gargages or lots that charge $5-6 minimum on weekdays, and more on weekends (plus, the garages have low clearances that won't allow vans or pickups with camper shells).
I like Qdoba's food, but have always preferred it as take out, or perhaps a quick stop. It makes no sense for me to grab a $7 meal if the cost is going to doubled for me to park - and I'll still have to walk a block or so from the nearest garage/lot.
OH MY GOODNESS, WALKING A BLOCK OR TWO?! THE TRAGEDY!!!!
For once, I am in complete agreement with grapevine--a little excercise is good for us and it improves the village.
