They truly enhance life in Coconut Grove

I think the best two things to happen to the Grove in the last six months (actually four) is The Bookstore and the Windisch-Hunt Gallery.

They both add culture and class to the area. They are both stately and just enhance the whole area. Felice, Sandy and AnnaMaria are three women who have added to the Grove in a great way. They had a vision, they didn't waste time and they got their businesses open.

While others never seem to open (inspections and zoning they claim), these two businesses opened in record time and these two large spaces were made into something that really says "Coconut Grove."

Already the gallery has had a couple of exhibits, had a charity event for the Woman's Club building restoration and has drawn tourists from all over. The Bookstore has had book signings, music events and has turned into the new Grove hangout. They truly add to the quality of life in Coconut Grove.

What do you think has been a great addition to the Grove in the last six months?

I agree that the Bookstore is a great addition to the Grove. We needed a regular old coffee shop type hangout and they delivered. I will admit that at first I thought, "Ooh wow, a bookstore...big deal." But, after I went there and got a ton of Xmas presents my tune changed.

Im really looking forward to Akashi opening up. Yes, its taken a long time but do you really think they are making excuses as to why they havent opened yet? Why would anyone want to pay months of rent without any revenue coming in the door? Cut em some slack Grape...

Boardwalk Pizza is awesome and they get packed on Thursday nights.

I doubt Akashi has been paying rent. Usually the owners will let you move in and have the first few months free to set everything up. Then they slam you with rent. I have no idea what their case is, but I do wish they would open. It's about time we get decent sushi in the grove.

Siam Oshi has great sushi and its a good value. I have a friend who is a fisherman and he is extremely picky about his sushi, to the point where its a tad annoying, and he likes the sushi there. Give it a try sometime.

On a side topic, I got to say that wall on US1 is looking nice. Dosn't enhance life, but sure looks nicer.

Now if we can ever get started on the waterfront plan. That would really add enhancement.

blind, I've been there before but they don't have anything hot,I mean as in a fryer. You can't get tempura, etc... The service wasn't the best either. It was one of the owners running around trying to do everything b/c she was the only person there.

Well, it's been more like the past year, but I think Grove Scuba has been a great addition. But I'm a diver, so I'm biased.

i hope the bookstore remains viable. i wonder how book sales compare to coffee/dessert sales, though.

somehow, borders crashed. im hoping the new place makes it.

as for new, i suppose nikki beach, though i hate everything it stands for

The bookstore had some great desserts for a few months and then all of a sudden they were gone (carrot cake, rum cake, guava bars, etc...). Anybody know what happened?

I think the Bookstore in the Grove is a great addition, I also think it's over priced. I was devested when I heard that Borders was closing! There has been something missing in the Grove since they left and I'm just happy to know that once again there is a bookstore in the Grove.

Now lets work on getting a super market that is not over priced!

Anon #1 - Siam Oshi service was a little rough at first but its better now. I also only ate there twice and mostly get it to go since I live a few blocks away. I wasnt aware they didnt offer hot items because I always get sushi.

Anon #2 - Is Grove Scuba on Mary next to the revolving door of corner restaurants? It seems like restaurants open and close there every few months. Also, do they do certification courses? I was certified a long, long, time ago so I would like to be re-certified.

I second the scuba place. Great prices on rental equipment and nice and close. Plus the equipment is much better than at that "other" location up on US1. I hope they last !!
