What's with the anti Sarnoff rally?

Commissioner Marc Sarnoff's swearing in ceremony is tonight at City Hall. According to many comments left on this post, there is going to be an "anti-Sarnoff rally".

I don't know if that is a joke or not, but perhaps those who feel the need to humiliate the guy should consider running against him rather than wasting everyone's time with an "anti rally." Why not put your asses where your mouths are and put your names on the ballot next time?

Reminds me of my neighbor who bitches and bitches to me daily about stupid condo crap, yet she refuses to get on the condo board, even though there is an empty seat just waiting for her fat ass.

When Mother Teresa was asked to join an anti war rally she responded, "No thank you. But if you should ever have a pro peace rally, I'll be there."

Nuff said. Stop the whining people. Grow up.

It sounds like Sarnoff has a Hugo Chavez problem. The majority do not like him, but are too apathetic to vote for someone else. In full disclosure, I am in this category.

Having known that Chavez/Sarnoff was going to use my property dollars for crazy condo subsidies, I would have taken time out of my busy Tuesday afternoon to vote against him.

This is a lesson learned on my part and not to sound too dramatic but as I watch events unfold in Venezuela today this is where apathy gets a nation.

I agree with what Mother Teresa said about war and peace rallies. I am absolutely convinced that the anti-war crowd today has not acheived a withdrawl from Iraq because they are too focused on their hate for Bush and their stated objective is secondary.

i dont think there is some secret group waiting to rally, i just think its a few bitter individuals. I am however pissed about Sarnoffs condo buying idea. I am not however going to go out there an picket because of it.

I tried to make a statement by voting against Sarnoff on election day and I was put down non-stop by commenters in this blog.

I have a clear conscience today.

Once again, affordable housing is part of the city budget. Sarnoff did not invent it, he only came up with an idea on how to use that budget item efficiently. It's only an idea, a proposal. Diaz is the one that put forth the budget.
Check the newspapers of the last couple of months and you will find that millions of that budget item has been spent without units getting built. The developers take the money and declare bankruptcy shortly after without any units being built. Get informed people.

Sarnoff simply suggested that the City consider buying some condos at reduced prices, he didn't mandate nor has the City acted on the suggestion. Even so, a bunch of ill-informed nut-jobs go bonkers.
Note to elected officials: Try not to have innovative ideas. You are almost certain to offend the bitch-andp-moan contingent.

Sarnoff brought to the attention of the public, and to his fellow Commissioners, that so-called "affordable housing" units were costing the taxpayers, in some cases, well over $300,000 per unit. Sarnoff pointed out that buyers can find units for $150,000 per unit. On the open market. It was a discussion. There was no bail-out proposed.

The group complaining are the "affordable housing" developers who make $4+ Mil fees upfront and invest none of their own money. That is one gravy train they want to keep running.

To answer the premise of this article:

Sarnoff has only been in office for one year. That is why nobody ran against him. Nobody really new what this guy was about, but in a year:

1. Demonstrated that he can't pursue fellow commissioners. Even to the point that the Mayor of Miami response to his Veto request was simply a political inbaresment to him.

2. Miami Ethics Commission found the Behavior of the city of Miami police chief as being unethical in regards to the "one year" test drive of a Lexus SUV. Marc Sarnoff response was that the Police Chief should get community service and pay a $7000 fine. So the Commissioner thinks that a fine will restore the communities trust in the Police Chief. Once again is the Commissioner is way off base.

3. The "Affordable Housing" idea of Sarnoff. It’s simply a bad idea in so many ways; I can just simply say that most comments in the Miami Herald and the eye on Miami blog speak for themselves.

Finally, I did vote on the last two elections. The first I voted for Sarnoff and the second I also voted for Sarnoff, because, really, nobody ran in the last election against him. So I decided to keep an eye on his ideas, and achievements. If he continues with bad ideas, and little accomplishment then I expected somebody may run against him in the next election.

What exactly is an anti-rally?

Shouldn't it be a protest rally, or just a rally?

The whole thing is just bizarre - whatever you call it.

its an anti-sarnoff rally. god, the grammar police are ridiculous on this board. i think its dumb but even I get the point. i think he needs another year to actually do something, but he is a shady lawyer and has lost a lot of trust from the people.

I dont think its fair for the grapevine to call others "complainers". that is 97% what this blog is all about.

He's a pretty incompetent commissioner who is, basically, not working out at all. The best anti-Sarnoff movement is, next election, move your choice somewhere else.

Sarnoff has done more in a year than Winton ever even thought about in seven. Think hard about something remarkable the other four commissioners have done? Tough isn't it? You're quick to put down the only innovative commissioner we have had in a very long time. There are close to 35,000 people in District 2 - anyone could have run against him including you, but you chose to sit home and write blogs and criticize.

A shady lawyer indeed, who spent many years burning bridges and publicly slandering people when he could not get his way when he was the president of his neighborhood association and when he pushed his way into other neighborhood groups.

It's really pretty funny that he is finally paying the price for all of his past bad behavior - at the most important time in his sorry career.

He has made so many enemies over the years, which is why now he can only find a few lonely old ladies to support him. Who's the smart one now Sarnoff?

It's rather comforting when you think about it: genuinely bad people really do pay the price in the end. And eventually, if you step back and let the public figure things out for themselves -
they will come to know the truth.

What?! I can't believe it...I just might be getting my faith in humanity (and in my community) back.

We will get it right next election.

It was "standing room only" at Marc Sarnoff's swearing in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. 500 of the most important and respected people in Miami attended. Decision makers, activists, constituents and friends. Sarnoff gave an inspiring speech.

Look at his achievements and not his words.

In regards to the comment on the comparison to past commissioners:

Sarnoff bad ideas, plus incompetence is not better than total incompetence.

So comrades, was the "anti-sarnoff rally" a success, or just hyped dribble?

December 03, 2007 12:15 PM

Yeah, who cares about a speech. His last speech said "No Home Depot" and look whats standing in that shopping center (dont bother with the "but its a smaller one!" comments, I dont care). Sarnoff is like a 7th grader campaigning for class president by making thinly veiled promises then just going with the flow of the other incompetent commissioners.

I feel that Sarnoff should realize that he cannot get anything done as our Commissoner do to his bad reputation. Nobody respects him, not even his own staff. He should do District Two a favor and step down.

Well, yes, Sarnoff is notorious for misrepresenting his community so that his own personal goals can be achieved. He has been sued for slander on many occasions. It's a shame that yet another misguided trouble maker is in office. But then again Miami has always had very low standards.

Sarnoff is doing just fine. Even the Herald praised one of Sarnoff's ideas in a Editorial on November 28th.
